    Quitting Alcohol

Lots of comments about weight and health, post drinking. What I learned in my journey of sobriety is that there's still struggles, health issues, and mood swings. Though, I handle all of them very differently now. It took me almost a year to drop noticeable weight. I thought that when I...

Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

Always been curious about what people mean by "backing out" of an area? How far away are you getting from that area, and how large is the area? Are you leaving an area if you're not on elk? I do my best to not walk with the wind on my neck but when it's switching around so much and you aren't...

Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

Have a story about that! I also bring a good along to read during the heat of the day or at night. I was reading after I finished lunch, and I was really into the book. I looked up and a small spike snuck up on me and was literally walking towards me about 20yds away. Yup, screwed that one...

Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

What I meant is sitting completely still for 3hrs like I was in a tree stand for whitetails. That would be hard for me. Still hunting (super slow walking), glassing, or even light cow calling would be better than just sitting for 3hrs and listening.

Sitting for 3hrs sounds like torture to me, but if it means killing my first elk......

I like the analytical approach! Especially #3. Never realized EUR may be converted differently to US.

    $329.00 Bugle Tube

The same people who bought the $400 skillet from Yeti will jump all over this! They can put both in their cybertruck....

    Hunting Boot PTSD

10 pair may be a bit of overkill...LOL! But I do like the idea of having a couple back-ups/future boot purchases before they stop production or change.

    Hunting Boot PTSD

I tried Lowa's lightweight option, can't remember the name (renegades or something like that). They leaked after a couple hikes on the coast range here in Oregon. That's another major issue that I need to take into consideration when selecting boots. I do a fair amount of hunting in the...

    Hunting Boot PTSD

After having some very severe heel issues with my Zamberlan 700 GTXs, I've stopped trying to "fix" them by tightening laces, adding heel inserts, hoping the pain was a break in period, etc.... Now I find myself overanalyzing every boot I look at. Reading every review like I was going to find...

Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

Love the advice! The one thing you mentioned is "found the best move is to just lay down and listen for a few hours" I really struggle with. I feel that if I'm not on the move looking for elk, then I'm wasting time and being lazy. I need to get over that feeling. I don't trust sitting there...

Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

Your mid-day madness quote sounds like it came right out of a born raised YouTube video. All those YouTubers put out good entertainment but unrealistic expectations. They make it seem there's elk bugling around every corner if you just call 300 times a day....

Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

100% agree. I'm slowly getting to a point in my life where I can spend more time in the field so hopefully that will pay dividends. Though, I have spent 5-6 days in the woods but not all of them productive. Looking back I shake my head at all the time I've wasted by not taking time, being...

2 stroke dirt bike for older rider?

I ride a 1999 RM 250 in the PNW coast range. Can't find much tighter and technical trails than here! Is my bike perfect, nope. Am I an expert rider, nope. But it's 100% capable, easy to fix, and super fun. If I rode enough I'd spend the money and get a dedicated woods bike but I'm very happy...

Weight Loss For Hunting in 2024

This is it! Diets are short term fixes for a longer-term problem. Change your eating habits and that will last a lifetime. After a while, fast food doesn't even sound appealing.

Weight Loss For Hunting in 2024

Actually, a 10oz steak, large potato, and a bunch of veggies would be around 1000 calories. Large potato - 300 10oz steak - 600 (probably less with wild game) veggies - 100-200 The calories can kick in with the butter and olive oil. Use sparingly and that meal is probably around 1200...
