    Western Mountaineering/Feathered Friends Fails?

I'm assuming most companies use a DWR treatment on the outside for water repellency, correct me if I'm wrong, and over time after heavy use, that treatment will likely begin to lose its ability to repel water as it did when new. My question is, if you bought a bag that doesn't have treated down...

    2022 Colorado Big Game Brochure

Got mine in the mail today! I see they put the recommendation to encourage wearing fluorescent orange/pink during the overlapping muzzleloader season. They talked about this in the commission meeting.

Schnees width & length compared to Crispi?

I actually didn't know what conditions you used the pac boot in and did not mean to sound like I was assuming you were using them in the wrong conditions. Snow on the ground sounds like perfect conditions for a pac boot and is why I am considering buying a pac boot. I want to do some late season...

Schnees width & length compared to Crispi?

tntrker, Not to speak for Matt, but my understanding is that comparing a Pac boot, (Hunters) to a mountain boot, (Guides), is apples to oranges. Each has it's place and functions a little differently. You may have experienced the same frustrations with another brand of Pac boot and may have...

Schnees width & length compared to Crispi?

Haven’t noticed any noise on mine. Have you tried putting healthy amounts of nikwax in that area? Not sure if it would help. May also try adjusting lacing. Instead of going from the first lace loops and going across the boot to the next set up, go straight up to the second ones then start...

QAD Exodus broadheads- good, bad, ugly?

Resurrecting this thread as to not start a new one. I have been using the Exodus for a couple years now and man they're awesome. I did initially run into an issue that I'm curious if anyone has experienced. I have been using the Black Eagle Spartan arrows, and when I switched to the Exodus I...

    Training for western hunt

I'm from Texas. I wouldn't say the elevation was hard on me. But I definitely was breathing harder going uphill at over 9,000' than at 100'. I'd say the most important things are going to be conditioning your feet, getting used to carrying a heavy pack over uneven terrain, (uses a lot of...

    Water Softener

Westinghouse. Expensive but worth it. They will likely do the install for you. But We have moved twice since we got ours and I have moved and installed it myself at both new locations. The system we got also came with filtration system under the sink for drinking water.

Schnees width & length compared to Crispi?

Just my experience. I had my foot measured on a brannock device. According to that I needed a 9.5 wide, EE on the brannock device. I ordered a 9.5 wide on my Beartooth II boots. Length is perfect, toebox has enough room. I feel they are right on the line of being a wide size so they initially...

    Tire Chains vs Cables

Buy real chains for offroad, square link should work. I bought a set before our hunt and turned out I needed them. Helped me pull someone out and helped keep me getting stuck and calling a tow truck a few days later. Trying them on at home as stated earlier helps a lot too. I have a 2015 Sierra...

How Do You Brew Your Coffee?

I bought one similar to that for travel and camping. Not sure on the brand but it was cheap, like 20-30 bucks. So far its been good though. I put a fancy electric burr grinder on my Amazon wish list. Guess nobody looked at it last year though :(

Also watch the water temp. Too hot will make the coffee bitter. Medium to light roasts generally are good in the 205-209 range, darker roasts a little less, probably 195-200.

What also made a difference for me is using whole beans and a good grinder. Get an adjustable burr grinder for more consistent grind. Use course grind for French press and medium to medium-fine for pour-over.

    Public figure equipment

I know I shouldn't expect different, after all they're businessmen/women. It just sucks it has to be about the money in a lot of cases. I hate to think there are people who are new to this and watch these people and think they have to put themselves in debt to buy all matching name brand...

    Public figure equipment

I know it's not uncommon but it seems like lately I've noticed more public figures switching to different equipment. A recent post on here mentioned Steve Rinella using an EXO pack. I know he used to be all Outdoorsman's, then I saw him use an SG pack on his mountain goat hunt, now I hear about...

Does Rinella not allow a gun to be carried on his hunts?

Interesting about the pack. I don't want to highjack this thread so I'll probably start another post on the pack/equipment topic. I know I saw this episode but didn't pay attention to the holster. As someone new to Western hunting, I'm still trying to figure out my viewpoints on public...
