Thank you all for the responses. It’s evident that I should’ve been more specific - as beautiful as the Sharps and Browning are I couldn’t bring myself to bust through the Arkansas brush with such a fine rifle.
If I had my druthers I’d find a lightly used CVA Scout or Traditions G2 with a...
Looking for a single shot straight wall, lightly used. Would consider
.350 Legend
.357 Magnum
.44 Magnum
.444 Marlin
.450 Bushmaster
.45-70 Gov’t
Etc.
Let me know what you’ve got.
Thanks!
Title says it all. Great set of limbs, I’ve gone with a lighter set on my 17” riser. Everyone says it so it’s become a cliche, but these limbs are rocket launchers. Extremely well made, fast and quiet. Shot a doe with these and got a pass-thru, breaking the offside femur clean in half.
Some...
Based on serial number on the action, this vanguard stock was made between ‘70-‘84. I didn’t even know they made them back then. I bought it on my first rifle at a flea market in 2006, and eventually upgraded to a Bell and Carlson stock. Thought of this stock the other day and got it out of...
It’s the 22”. I had the same debate and went with the 22 light instead of the 20 heavy. Accuracy isn’t exactly suffering - shot it last weekend to sight it in after getting the barrel chopped and had 5 shots at 1.1” at 100y. Off the hood of my car, I’m pretty happy with that.
$28 is worth it for the lifetime warranty and quality. Smartwool are good socks too. I pretty much wear merino exclusively because my feet are sweaty no matter what and merino is the only thing comfortable in the swamps of Dagoah.
I live in NW Arkansas. North Central AR is beautiful and has excellent fishing and good hunting opportunities in its own right. Maybe not as big or as many animals as other places but some unique opportunities.
I’m ready for these to come to market. I’ve always thought the magazines look kinda clunky. At least they feed reliably.
Here’s my Grendel. 4lbs 10oz unscoped. I wonder if the bottom metal will add weight or reduce weight?
+1 for a used Eberlestock mainframe. Can be used as a daypack with batwings or just strap a lightweight duffel bag to it for 1-3 day treks. To me it carries heavy loads (80lbs) better than the metcalf or beartooth. Ultimately though something that fits him well is most important.
OP, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you go with the Grendel. I’ve been hunting whitetails with one since 2010, and it’s proven to be a very capable AR whitetail gun. 123gr SSTs are what I use.
I’ve got a 20” bull barrel upper and a 16” M4-barrel upper and prefer hunting with the 16”...
