Looking further all the campgrounds within the Black Hills Natl Forest are closed thru the end of April. I'll have to get creative or just go in May, assuming they dont extend things
Im planning on trying Black Hills this spring- didnt set a date but probably either last week of April or start of May. Driving out from NW WI- should be great scenery if nothing else and a good way to social distance myself! I believe most campgrounds are open and free currently so should be a...
No doubt - i made the comparison and acknowledged that there are far more deer around then elk. My home state of WI has a estimated population of almost 2 MILLION. What are CPW estimates on elk in CO...like 300k? Its a insane difference so I guess i should not have been surprised to walk all...
There isnt any reason that some WT tactics dont carry over into the elk woods...all depends on the situation. Talked to guys that noted in previous years they setup makeshift blinds or hung portable stands on the edges of meadows and would sit dark to dark and had success.
I felt the same way, i've hunted deer for almost 30 years- i get that there is NEVER any guarantees in hunting but i sure expected to at least see a elk in 4.5 days of hunting- just with dumb luck i would have thought we would bump one when out covering ground. We also talked to folks that had...
i was out there yesterday, saw all the smoke as we were driving out. We saw guys camping that had huge fires rolling, so stupid given everything was dried to a crisp!! Guys hunting that area second season are going to have some problems now
We hunted 65 as well. Saw three cows from the road Monday AM but never saw one while hunting in 4.5 days. Heard three shots in five days. There was a lot of sign in spots but it was all a month old- we hunted from around 9k up to 11k. Its was crazy dry up top, but even where we tried lower where...
Its Colorado in October...the dumb weather forecasts really mean nothing. It could be 80 degrees or zero, could snow or you could get sun burnt. And all that might occur in the same day. Just pack for everything and you'll b e fine
There are hundreds of posts on these and the leaking issues. The good news is Salomon warranties them for two years , and Gore Tex will beyond that. I have heard of folks noting they leaked out of the box, others didnt leak until several years old, some never leak...
These saw very little use, couple 'test' hikes and two goose hunts last Fall. $100 TYD, Paypal accepted. I'm new to this site, but PM me if you want to see feedback from some other sites.
I bought a new pair of Pronghorns at Cabelas, they pinched my ankles so badly i couldnt hardly go a hundred yards. Right were the leather naturally folds at your ankle- maybe it was just my foot but I returned those suckers in a hurry. The Asolo Flame are good boots as well, dang near the same...
There must be different quality levels of Gore-Tex because higher end boots like Crispi, Meindl, etc use Gore-Tex and you dont hear of to many waterproof issues. At least not like the Salomon 4D's- seems like every pair of those leak
We have different definitions of 'a ton'. I have hunted waterfowl, pheasants, etc out there and we have seen very little posted land in NW ND. Getting a bit dramatic that shows have 'wrecked' every OTC hunt out West- there is a very small percentage of people that watch these shows that are...
What kind of waterproofing do guys seek out other then Goretex? I havent had any issues to date but threads like this get me a little worried sometimes
