Slightly different angle…
A couple things that may not have been mentioned yet:
1) Not only do you have the report (bang) of the rifle to contend with in terms of countermeasures to avoid hearing loss, there is also the blast wave to contend with. Muzzle break will amplify this effect to those...
I don’t see it as bickering, a suppressor is a significant cost. Expensive and time consuming to acquire, hard to liquidate. Getting the wrong can is an expensive mistake. Making the decision is just as hard.
So people should hear opinions, but please base them in fact, and better, actual...
I have a deer lease on a future toothpick farm (planted pine) in SEUSA and shots are rarely past 100 yds. Deer top out around 165, so using an AR15 with 7.62x39. They just clear cut some of the property over the summer and seeing deer in the clear, I’ve been getting up to speed with the 6.5...
Oh, no supersonic crack is quite loud, especially in the woods or other locations where sounds can reflect back. I zeroed my suppressed hunting rifle for 60 yds so I can use cci standard, as the minimag and other supers have a sharp crack.
the good news is I find the cci standard stays subsonic...
With 22lr its such a lightweight round only the muzzle and receiver will allow sound out. I said earlier sometimes mine $200 rifle is so quiet other than spent shell ejecting, hard to tell it went off.
as far as barrel weight/profile, I think the metric to use is not absolute suppression, as I...
Get one already factory threaded. Bolt will be quieter, but my semi auto Marlin Papoose takedown is so quiet I sometimes wonder if it went off. (Cci standard)
the papoose threadding came back not concentric. Nightmare. Took months of wrangling with the gunsmith to get him to make good.
I sent...
Ajsomp is giving good advice. I put a SiCo hybrid on a 24” barrel 30-06 and while I love the sound suppression (not hearing safe), the recoil reduction with 180 grain feels more like a 30-30 Winchester 94.
The 18 oz weight feels like moving a battleship turret as weight is magnified by being on...
Have y’all seen the rate of suburban expansion? I realize the west is immune to some of this-but if you think it’s crowded now, wait until all that’s left is public.
Yep look at what’s happening to Wyoming Pronghorn migration routes. ‘Effing subdivision getting built!!
(Kudos to field and...
edit… been in very REMOTE places,
No woke and liberals aint got nothing to do with it. Stop passively believing what some talking head in NYC is telling you and start thinking for your self.
billionaires are inventing these wedge issues to keep people distracted while they consume...
The Western European mentality of consuming and throwing away everything they touch with out thinking about the consequences.
We have fishermen who use nets and kill just about everything they catch then complain when restrictions that are designed to prevent total collapse of entire...
We had a GSP we had to put down as well. (I’ve got tear’s making it hard to see) 😢
NO WAY should you shoot him. Take him to the vet, let the vet give you a rational assessment. If he agrees the humane thing is to put the dog down, then hold your dog and let the last thing he sees is your face...
Mesa Verde, Arches, Bryce.
Canada: Jasper, Banff
Mesa Verde One of the most unique parks I've ever seen.. Near Durango, which is fun too. Then drive to Moab, Canyonlands, Arches.
These desert parks are really fragile, so please stay on the trails. Last few years the mobs have pummelled some of...
Comparing 9mm 147 monocore, vs baffle stack, on monocore, first round pop (FRP) can be brutal, my estimate is 75% of unsuppressed, enough to cause hearing damage. Subsequent rounds are suppressed reasonably well and are hearing safe. I was told this is the oxygen being burned on FRP, subsequent...
I met Ray Sanchez at a shoot and he let me demo TBAC7 with 300 Norma on some high end bolt action sniper rifle. (I think it's same one he uses in his videos). I don't know where the sound went.
I have shot a lot of cans and I felt TBAC7 was hearing safe for the 2-3 rounds a hunter would fire in...
Columbia makes several boonie hats that have sun protection built in. I prefer the 5.11 boonies, for hunting, as the brim is stiff enough I can clip a flashlight to it and go hands free, the Columbia is too floppy, but does fold down to nothing.
In Florida we also use baseball caps with a snap...
