You’ll be trading fragmentation for penetration by going heavy, or vice versa. The impact velocity matters here. You don’t want it going too fast or it’ll splat, and too slow (<1900ish) and it won’t frag well.
It’s a great way to lob a bigger bullet from a small frame. Ammo isn’t the cheapest but it’s not a 5.56 so it’s kinda unfair to compare to 5.56. I hear PSA will be releasing ammo for it soon and I’ve been a big fan of their prior releases.
I’ve got the red MOA. Not crazy about the reticle, I think maybe I should have got the crosshairs or mil, but I love the scope. It’s got a lot of great features and is very high quality for the price.
Don’t think of it as a scope, or, if you want a scope, look elsewhere. Instead, think of it as a mid-range red dot. It will get hits on a silhouette out to the effective range of 5.56 quickly. Used properly they’re exceptional, but in the wrong role they’re pretty trash.
