Howdy all, I'm going to explore the Makua Kea'au hunting area to prep for goat season and wanted someone to go with in case I twist my ankle and cartwheel over a cliff face and vice versa. Anyone interested in doing some vertical scouting? I'm targeting the weekend of July 22-23.
Nice shot and enjoyed the video. I'm sure you had to move fast with the bugs on you, but did you notice if you hit the heart directly or just beside it? Results were pretty convincing either way!
Agree with the Hot Melt - to remove, heat the threads of a field point, then screw it into the insert and wait a few seconds to let the heat dissipate and melt the glue. If you heat the insert directly you may damage the carbon.
Encouraging to see a good example of how bow weight doesn't matter as much as shot placement and a proper arrow. Looking forward to trying my hand at some boar myself with a similar setup, so good to have some validation!
Thanks! It's a Centaur Archery custom job - Jim Neaves makes some of the best. I followed the spine calculator allowing for a heavy head and I was probably on the cusp between 400 and 500, but I figured with a heavy head it would be better to go with 400, especially as I don't care if my arrow...
Yup it was Ryan Sanpei, cool guy but he appears to not have been active online for several years now. I'll keep to the known areas then - plenty of exploring for me to do there! Enjoying the island so far and will let you guys know if I get anything.
Very nice - you know what would complement this? A map. You have a wide triangle of locations where those three animals were killed, and that's no small feat either!
Hi all, just posted in the Trad Archery thread but I am moving to Oahu on Saturday and wanted to meet up with any hunters out there to share a cold one and get the lay of the land. Anyone up for a brew on me?
I'm jumping on a plane and moving to Oahu on Saturday and am eager to learn how to get into the hills with my longbow. Any Hawaii hunters out there want to meet up and swap some hunting stories and offer any advice over a cold beverage? I'm moving there more or less permanently, so I'm going...
I've seen it done with a 39# bow, but you gotta be close and sink that arrow in the right spot. I'd say you can do it with your setup, but get your arrow worked out to maximize penetration. The Ashby bowhunting foundation will probably help - following their principles I'd say make sure your...
Look up "The Traditional Bowyers Bible" series of books on making self bows - wealth of information there. As others have mentioned, Clay Hayes is good. Another one is Tradgang.com - a forum for traditional archery building and shooting - post a question in the "Pow wow" section and you are...
