    Brown Slime

The buck I cut up this year had bleeding under the skin on both rear legs. It looked like they were very recent injuries, possibly from a fight with another buck. Sometimes the winning buck will keep on trying to gore the one that turned to run.

How do you choose a custom rifle builder?

I chose Matthew Roberts for my walnut-stocked, blued-steel .270 Win. I chose him because he helped create the Richardson & Roberts action, which is patterned after the pre-'64 Model 70. I found one of the last actions up in Canada at Ralf Martini's shop. I also chose him because I like his work...

    22ARC with 77 TMK

I'm getting 2957 fps with mine. It's 20 or 30 thousandths off. I don't know how long it is, but mine's a single shot, so length isn't a problem.

Does the 223/6mm for everything change when hunt cost $$$

    Yeah, that's funny.

    Sheep Boots

Here's my technique for finding the perfect boots: 1. Set up appointment with local Certified Pedorthist. 2. Buy as many boots as you think you'll like, and you think will fit, before your appointment. 3. Visit Pedorthist. Have him examine your feet and some of your well-worn shoes. Try on...

    Terminal performance: 69tmk vs 77tmk?

My rifle has a 1-10" twist and shoots the 69 TMK like crazy. Nevertheless, I will be stepping up to a 1-8" twist barrel and shooting the 77 TMK. The 69gr did not have the penetration I would like. I say re-barrel to a 1-8", or even 1-7" so you can also shoot the 88 ELD-M. It's only money!

    Terminal performance: 69tmk vs 77tmk?

My personal experience is with the 69 TMK. 3250 fps muzzle velocity - 22-250 297 yards impact in neck No exit. Both of us could hear the impact. Bullet remnant weighed 17 grains, base was intact. Deer weighed 200+ lbs.

    Favorite Sheep Caliber

Thanks for the story. It looks like the Mark X had a new synthetic stock by the time you went on the Dall's hunt and shot the wolverine.

    Favorite Sheep Caliber

I have to confess, my interest is piqued on the sheep hunts. Those pictures are like the ones I saw in Outdoor Life back in the '70s. How much did your rifle weigh? How about your backpack in the unlimited units? I would love some detail on the hunts.

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I feel for the guys who can't get over the diminutive size of the .22 calibers, I really do. After reading the ".223 for deer, et al" thread earlier this year I was faced with a big decision: hunt whitetails with my .270 Win., or try the .22-250 with the TMK. I was so used to hunting with...

Stone glacier de havilland jacket sizing

I tried mine on last night. It's a large, and it does seem to have plenty of length for me. I still think that's the size for you.

Stone glacier de havilland jacket sizing

I have that one. I’m 5’9” and it does not run long. I would try a large first. Mine is a couple years old.

    Wyoming Whitetails

Thanks for that information. The 2022 report explains the previous EHD event.

    Wyoming Whitetails

Yes, those factors that you mentioned reduced the population somewhat. It also seems location specific to me. One area had fewer and smaller bucks, but another spot 75 miles away the herd was in great shape and 4 out of 4 hunters took mature deer, and saw several others. I like to take a...

    2023 Booner

I stand corrected. Except for the nice buck part.

Nice buck! That's a great shot with a bow. (Technically a "Poper" isn't it?)

    Wyoming Whitetails

Thank you. I like it a lot. I thought about checkering, but the wood is so nice that I don't want to interrupt the mineral streaking. Also, I get a good grip on the stock with the gloves I usually wear.

    Wyoming Whitetails

I got another buck this year from eastern Wyoming. The tag I drew was for areas 11, 12, 13, and 14. He's much better than last year's. This region has pretty good bucks. They're all in the creek bottoms.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

That buck is a stonker! He's as big or bigger than the ones I saw in Wyoming this year. Well done to your wife!

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Thank you. It’s actually a Dakota Varminter. It’s based on a Nesika target action, which is a single shot. I had to laugh after it was all over. It registered that I had just smoked a 200 pound deer with a rifle called Varminter. It never would have crossed my mind to use it before I read this...
