Got up early and worked late all my life. Now I go to sleep late and get up late. Occasionally see a sunrise and they are still the same as 50 years ago.
I have started carrying a crowbar while cross country hiking. It weighs 16 lbs. Now when I carry a rifle at less than 10 lbs it feels like a feather. There is probably some commercial replacement for the crowbar but probably has a fancy name and sells for $200.00 plus.😀
Hunters trespass frequently. I am NOT an idiot. I do not scream and curse or call the cops. I generally let them stay and only ask them to leave if I have a good reason. My 3000 acres has a lot of good hunting too. Some of you need to grow up and cheer up.
If I ever caught some of you on my...
Border guys are trying to stop transmission of disease. Apples, oranges and potatoes crossing borders can cause the spread. There are regs regarding meat also.Asian folk are notorious for trying to bring raw exotic meats in to Canada.
I have used them in Egypt, they were everywhere. Here in Canada I had two with diesels . An 84 with 4 cylinder and 92 with 6 cylinder. Awesome and tough.
Talked to dealer last week about the new model. They may get two in about three months. No diesel in Canada. The kid salesman had no idea...
My f150 is a 2016 with 2.7l and 162,000 mi. Gets 20 mpg at 65 mph. Exactly what the salesman said. Brakes all round at 110,000 mi. Screen went wonky a year ago but not going to invest 100s or a 1000 to repair. I pull a light trailer often with no problem. Going to drive it till it drops. Then...
This should be under a title : something strange that will be found someday. I was in a helicopter slinging a truck grill guard. We were in the middle of 20 miles of nothingness. Pilot said : oh shit , I just hit the hook release and dropped it.
This was 40 years ago but I expect someday...
I haul dogs a lot. I find kennels can be smaller than recommended. Dogs curl up and don’t need all the space . They are dogs , used to small spaces. Think how big a coyote den is.
Many years ago someone speared a black bear in Saskatchewan. It was quite well publicized. As a result spearing big game is now illegal here.
I believe he was in a stand and speared the bear from above.
Anyhow: it can be done but possibly not a wise move.
I had a great lab named Curly. She was a quiet gentle girl and accompanied me on many deer and moose hunts. She knew wether I had a rifle or a shotgun and acted accordingly. Several times I crawled up on deer and she just stayed with me . Deer sometimes noticed her but never bothered.
One...
I have had a commercial licence for 45 years. Paid for it all with one month crop dusting. I had my own plane and made a lot of money dusting. Moved on to a float plane and did ok. Never had any desire to fly big iron . I saw it as a useful skill and not a passion. I did many other jobs to make...
First: do something to make good money, oil patch, construction , wildfire fighting , whatever makes a lot of money quickly. While doing this keep an eye out for a small business for sale. You should have some knowledge and interest in it but doesn’t have to be an obsession.
I know several...
I northern Saskatchewan there are lakes named after soldiers who died during the first and second WW. I found a memorial fastened to a rock on one lake. A hundred miles by air from the nearest road. One lake is named after a guy from my hometown, killed in Italy. CLOSE Lake , after Keith Close.
In the mid 70s I had two consecutive great years. Shot a wt, mule, antelope, moose and elk each year. Other years have gotten black bear and woodland caribou , but not all of the others. Elk pops are up, moose are down and woodland are closed. I certainly hit the jackpot those years. And: coyotes...
Every two years. If you have never had it done there will be a lot of fuzz/lint/dog hair etc. And change furnace filter annually. The whole system will be more efficient.
I have used and wore out several pair of Filson wool cargo pants. Warm and durable. I would wear them every day about 4 months in winter. They would be worn to threads after three years. My buddies often asked if I only had one pair of pants. I was younger then and a pair would last ten years now.
My eight years in far northern Canada taught me: there are no people, cold would get you in winter and bugs in summer, huge areas with no big game and little small game. Canadas north is 6 times the size of Alaska. There are over a million people in Alaska and only 150,000 in northern Canada...
