    KE, Momentum, Speed/FPS, Ethical Kill

I forgot to insert obligatory Dr. Ashby links. Here's a good archive of it: http://tuffhead.com/education/ashby.html Read it. All of it. All the calcs and napkin math and theorycrafting pale in comparison to empirical testing and field data. It's all done with a trad-bow, so it'll scale up...

    Go Lite reborn...by BA?

I use mine in the snow. Search youtube for SL5 in the wind and snow - lots of videos out showing them in high-winds with and without snow. I don't know that I'd want to be in one over 50mph, but I haven't tried it either. I'd only be really worried about a massive wet Sierra dump, since your...

Atsko or Nikwax for waterproofing Jacket?

Never heard of Atsko, but Nikwax has been kind of a "gold standard" for years. /shrug +1 for wash-in ... much better than a spray. -mox

    KE, Momentum, Speed/FPS, Ethical Kill

If you have the spare cash, got for the upgrade because it won't hurt. But. At 60 yards, the flight time difference is negligible. At 60 yards, the KE is bleeding off really quickly and doesn't really matter. At 60 yards you need a heavy arrow to, as larryschwartz says, KEEP your momentum...

Lost sleeping bag - Iron Lakes California

I left a sleeping bag at the upper campground of Iron Lakes back on September 22nd while packing up in the dark. It's a long-shot, but stranger things have happened and I really liked that bag. =) Thanks! -mox Santa Clara County Search and Rescue

    Gold Tip Kinetic insert/collar?.....

I just built arrows targeting 80lb draw weight with a 32" draw length, using 30" shafts + HIT inserts and using a Ripcord Red drop-away rest. With HIT inserts the setup works with not much room to spare. With the outserts on the outside, it will conflict just a little with the dropaway rest at...

    Recommend a Tipi pole

My question is: Why would you never have poles? Poles are like 4WD for the backcountry. Always have poles. =P

    Aqua Tabs/Steripen

Steripen's major selling point is the anti-virus capabilities. Therefore it is their (MSR's) largest competition. To just say "total failure" and move on means that anyone not paying attention or doesn't know how it actually works is a win for them.

    Aqua Tabs/Steripen

The Steripen test was bogus. Why? Because Steripen/UV DOES NOT HAVE TO KILL STUFF. It can still be alive when you're done. Read that again. Yes, you can drink it with the bacteria/viruses still alive. However. For a bacteria/virus to harm you it has to replicate. It has to reproduce into...

    Lighted nocks while hunting?

I've never shot them, and only seen videos of them. Are they worth the extra weight/cost for hunting? TIA!

New build, new arrows ... but what stats?

Yeah, if I was shooting less weight or had less draw length (shorter arrow) then getting into the low 500s with good FOC would be doable. When the base arrow-shaft weight is 348gr all by itself there's just no option to really build up the FOC without pushing the total weight way up. I'll...

    Wood stove materials - Brass?

You are correct - I got my thermal-capacity (how hard it is to heat) and thermal-conductivity (how well it transmits heat) intermixed in my post. Apologies. Density of the brass you listed is ~ x2 that of the Alum, 3x that of the Ti. I don't know how much the lead in the brass will cause...

    Wood stove materials - Brass?

Looks like it's considerably heavier, more prone to denting/bending, and has *much* worse thermal conductivity (like, much worse ... Ti-t6 has 46.5 BTU-in/hr-ft^2 vs cartridge brass' 833 BTU-in/hr-ft^2.) Oh, and brass often contains lead - make sure you get the pure stuff or it might not be fun...

New build, new arrows ... but what stats?

Yep, they're based on the GT .200s! The BERs (.150) and GrizzlyStiks (.175) were all too heavy on the gpi to get good FOC without really going overboard on weight. I was going to run the SS BER .150 half-outs for 76gr up front and the extra touch of length since the Kaos only have 30" out of...

New build, new arrows ... but what stats?

I'm not getting wrapped up in speed - actually just the opposite! I'm trying to decide if I want to roll with 200-240 FPS and how much I want to deal with the extra drop at longer ranges. Theoretical from online calcs and specs... 571@296, 12.54 FOC 737@234, 20.02 FOC <-- What'd you shoot...

New build, new arrows ... but what stats?

So I finally ordered a new bow, one that actually fits me since I'm a big guy. My old too-short Golden Eagle from 1996 is finally retired. My old arrows were already underspined (5575 .400s) with the GE so I need to build some new ones to fit the new rig. Western hunting, spot and stalk...

    Last minute BOMB bags?

Every place is dead-out. I called Larry but got an answering machine - left a message but no callback. Had a SAR callout so I had to cancel the hunting trip anyways. (Didn't find the guy but had a nice mountain-hike loaded down with gear ... ) Went to go get some TAG bags today and the...

    Last minute BOMB bags?

On a last minute hunt and trying to find a T.A.G BOMB bag set. Everyplace I see is out of stock. Anyone know smaller shops who might have one left? Thanks! -mox

    exo mountain pack

re: fitting Here's another fitting one. It's by Eberlestock but it's appropriate because Steve is in it. :P https://youtu.be/KDbDXRUXFnA Or this one for a Kifaru. http://www.militarymorons.com/equipment/kifaru/kifaru_setup.html Hopefully we'll see an Exo-specific video. It shouldn't be...
