If you don't want the velvet to come off consider cutting out the skull cap and reattaching it after you clean the skull. Or you could cut the antlers off individually and reattach them with a screw from the bottom when done. That's the only way to be sure the velvet won't get damaged cleaning...

You want some that breath. Some of the newer reusable ones hold too much moisture and will freeze to the meat when hung overnight. Sounds like these Argalis are breathable. Never used them. I use a mixed matched bunch I have saved over the years and they do the trick.
I got my 3 kids 7mm-08s when they started out but all 3 now shoot one of my 300 wsm's. The recoil doesn't seem to bother them when shooting at game. The 08s mostly sit in the safe during hunting season.
