    Light primer strike

Shot some reloads today, after about 22 rounds I had light primer strike and no ignition. First time that's happened in about 600 rounds with this rifle. Ruger american 308. The back story is I did remove my firing pin and the spring decompressed. It was a pain to reset and im afraid I've...

Shoulder Bump and the Ruger American 308

Mines not too bad, I can do it with a finger but it's definitely not smooth

Shoulder Bump and the Ruger American 308

Damn... Yeah that's it. Thanks! On all the tutorials I've watched no one has ever mentioned that. I also have no idea how to remove it. The process of taking out the firing pin was stressful too, I decompressed the spring at one point. Nightmare, but I got it assembled again. Do you think this...

Shoulder Bump and the Ruger American 308

I was trying the shoulder technique of removing the firing pin so I can easily detect when my brass fits just right in the chamber after bumping around .002. I'm using a Redding Premium die and the competition shell holders. I went through the whole process with the fancy shell holders but the...

Debating an Upgrade from Ruger to Tikka CTR or UPR

I know, It doesn't have to be as complicated or as expensive as I've made it with my 308. I like to use lapua brass, expanding mandrels, Redding dies and now getting into the competition shell holders for shoulder bumping, and will be using a Giraud tri way trimmer which is caliber specific. Not...

Debating an Upgrade from Ruger to Tikka CTR or UPR

Since I already have a 308, I'm thinking about getting another caliber like 6.5 creedmoor or maybe 7mm 08. But, I already have the reloading components for 308 and sure wouldn't mind not having to re buy everything. Do you think it makes more sense to get another 308 for a jump in quality from...

I've heard worse ideas ;-) if I'm not careful I'll need a new safe soon

Debating an Upgrade from Ruger to Tikka CTR or UPR

This is really helpful! Thanks. Hopefully I'll have time at the range this weekend to try some different powder charges. That thread is interesting.. sounds like some advice I've heard echoed on Hornady's reloading podcast. Start with course changes first, if things are stable and working well...

Debating an Upgrade from Ruger to Tikka CTR or UPR

Kinda leaning in that direction. The Roughtech is looking good too. Obviously not going to be as accurate and is off topic, but I was reading about the Howa superlite. Sure sounds nice to carry around at under 4.5 pounds. $1500 is steep though.

What do you focus on when dry fire practicing?

Debating an Upgrade from Ruger to Tikka CTR or UPR

Yeah Varget seams to be giving the best accuracy so far. And the cold bore shot poi is basicall within the margin of error of subsequent shots as well which is great. Thanks the load data. I'm at 45.7 grains with the varget so lots of room left for experimentation left. Using lapua brass...

    Vinegar for cleaning brass

Typically I use distilled water and Hornady's solution to cleanup my brass in an ultrasonic cleaner. Works well. Today, I accidentally picked up the distilled vinegar bottle along with my distilled water. The bottles look almost identical, from Walmart. Anyway, the solution was about 180 Oz all...

Debating an Upgrade from Ruger to Tikka CTR or UPR

Thanks! Lots of room for improvement. Hopefully more rounds does produce some better results. Actually the more I look at it, the stock is starting to grow on me. It's fairly light, and if it gets the job done thats all that matters to me. Thanks for the comments..

Interesting, thanks for the input. I did have a lot better groups today but I also changed my seating depth as I noted in another response. Next round I'll change my seating depth back to saami specs and see if there's any change. Still would very much like to get a tikka. Really like the...

Debating an Upgrade from Ruger to Tikka CTR or UPR

Thanks for the advice! I do have a torque screwdriver and did check action screws, and all scope related screws. All seem good. I did make some good progress today after cleaning the barrel, along with some other changes. I also seated the bullets about as far as I could based on magazine...

Nice groups! I haven't tried the Barnes factory loads, but that's a good suggestion. I'll give it a go, definitely couldn't hurt. I've read lots of people can have a hard time with monolithics. Which is frustrating cause at the end of the day I need to be able to hunt with them since I'm in CA...

Tough choices... yeah I'd be interested in the stock if you go the UPR route. Let me know! I like the idea of going stainless or cerakoting as well.
