    Youth packs for hauling meat

We purchased a Western Edge about a month ago. Unfortunately it was after we finished hunting for this season. Quality is awesome and the owner was extremely responsive to questions I had prior to purchase. I bought it for my 10 year old for exactly what you are doing. Something that can grow...

Howa Mini Rifles, Builds, and Upgrades

It is. My 17.75" 6ARC dopes out to 2550 MV with factory 108 ELD-Ms. That's verified dope to 650.

    2500 class truck

Make sure you have the speedo calibrated. The AEV unit is the one to use. Don't get suckered into the Tazer. It has a habit of killing the ABS module. Fixing the speedometer will allow the computer to do a better job with shift points and increase mileage more than you'd think. Doesn't make...

    2500 class truck

That should be a pretty easy choice if you are honest about your towing/hauling usage. Either the 450 makes sense or gas makes sense.

My Best Advice Regarding Rifle and Pack Weight

The buddy that missed those two opportunities in that story uses a sling always. That's part of what fumbled him up. LOL. Most of my rifles don't even have front sling studs. They've been replaced with Pic rails for a bipod.

My Best Advice Regarding Rifle and Pack Weight

In a single week long hunt a couple years ago I had it happen twice. We were looking for a friends first buck before I took any opportunity so I kept my rifle on my pack. I watched him fumble on two good muleys that I could have and would have easily taken if my rifle was in my hand. Both would...

My Best Advice Regarding Rifle and Pack Weight

My current main hunting rifle is actually 7# all up with suppressor. The difference in that and anything heavier in the hand all day is insane. You really can't understand it until you carry something that light for a day. Not on a pack. In your hand. And there's no issue shooting a 6ARCor 6...

Howa Mini Rifles, Builds, and Upgrades

I'll tell you what. Build a Mini 6ARC with the goal of keeping it light. Kill something with 108 ELDMs. I wouldn't be surprised if that 11# Tikka sits on the shelf when hunting for the most part. These rifles are just so darn easy to shoot.

My Best Advice Regarding Rifle and Pack Weight

Are people really carrying 13# rifles on all day hunts with hiking up and down mountains? Anyone other than Brady Miller? LOL Why? No fricking thanks. I don't even own a hunting rifle over 9# including the suppressor.

Howa Mini Rifles, Builds, and Upgrades

I really think anything heavier than a HNT26 wouldn't really keep to what the Mini is. The Oryx is over 4 pounds.

My Best Advice Regarding Rifle and Pack Weight

I never understood this mindset. Everyone, yes, everyone, performs better with zero pack weight and nothing in their hands. The closer you get to that, the better you perform in the field. Of course you also perform better if your body weighs less but those two things are not interchangeable...

    2500 class truck

I don't tow a SxS. If I need that, I'm walking. If you haven't ridden in a well set up HD truck on properly inflated 37s in the dirt you have no idea what you're talking about frankly. The increased speed you can safely and comfortably drive on FS and rough county roads is a huge time saver. Not...

Backpack Fit, What Do You Prefer?

I would bet that what you are calling waist is actually hips. Feel your sides for the tops of your pelvis. That's the tops of your hips. Your waist is above that. Think highwaist pants for girls. You want your pack belt centered on the tops of that bone so the weight is carried by that bone.

How many people are happy with their Howa Mini?

Looks like they are 6 lbs 12 oz rifle and stock according to guns magazine that actually weighed one. That's almost 2 pounds more than one with a VG.

    2500 class truck

As a point of reference my 2014 3500 Laramie 4wd short bed with the sunroof had almost 4000# of payload.

    2500 class truck

I went Ford this time simply because the new SDs are so darn nice and Ram seems to have zero intentions of updating things. My last two 3500s were both Rams. A 2014 and a 2019 in addition to the 2020 Power Wagon I just traded. ZERO issues with any of them. Drop Thuren coils and shocks in the...

    Form struck someone’s nerve

It's kind of shocking how many people will brag about constantly attempting marginal shots on animals.

    Acquiring Landowner Permission via Letter

What about a PM on Rokslide? Looking for a spot for my kids to pop some whitetails with their bows. They both have gloves and work boots and are free all summer. LOL.

    2500 class truck

Huge deal out here in Montana. Having to screw with fuel every single day on an antelope hunt is for the birds.I just jumped back to a 3500 from my Power Wagon and in addition to the inability of the PW to handle the load I needed with a family hunting range was a huge deal.Going to drop a...

    2500 class truck

As a couple of guys said prior, go 3500 SRW. Unless for some reason you can afford a late model HD truck but can't afford higher registration (huh?), 3/4 ton trucks just don't make sense. There is very little, if any, ride quality difference that can't be solved by dropping tire inflation to a...
