Where would the best venue be to meet and chat with several European outfitters?
SCI? DSC? Any other similar upcomming conventions with a European focus?
What I'm seeing here is that the big game seasons in europe are on for far longer than what I'm used to in Canada.
Our typical big game seasons for deer, moose etc are only 2-4 week periods.
I’m open to forest hunting but that’s mostly what I have here at home so some elevation would be a nice change.
I’ve seen many of the hunts in Germany, Hungary, Czech, Poland etc seem to be more of a forest and agricultural field type hunt.
What is the appeal of France? The multiple chamois?
I’m picturing 3 separate trips to Europe. Western, Central and Eastern hunts.
What would you say would be the top 3?
I was thinking Spain - Austria - Romania.
Thanks for those additions.
As this forum's expert on hunting in Spain, what other countries are comparable in terms of game variety and overall adventure?
I'll start with listing the common big game species in Europe and where they are found, not all are huntable in every country listed.
Bovine
European Bison (Poland, Slovakia, Sweden)
Bears
Eurasian Brown Bear (Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, Sweden, Norway, Finland)
Sheep/OVIS
Central European...
I did a bit of digging and didn't come across many European hunting threads, especially in recent years. In terms of international hunting destinations I feel like many of us overlook Europe in favour of Africa and Asia.
I'm hoping we can use this thread to provide a comprehensive overview of...
Yeah that would be the list of game that I'd be most interested in. Species that may be legal to hunt in countries that are open to international hunters, yet can't be imported back home.
If only NZ had an invasive sheep that you could DIY hunt for cheap…
Too bad there’s such a leap in price between the various mouflon and the next most affordable Ovis Species.
That’s awesome. I just watched a video of in Alpine Mouflon hunt, it looked like a real mountain hunt, similar to what you would expect ibex in.
The appeal of Romania from what I can tell are the Carpathian Mountains and the largest Chamois species.
I guess aside from those they are known for...
So upwards of half a million Canada to complete the slam.
I definitely envy the guys that can accomplish that today but it is out of range for 95% of us.
I could hunt every year for the next 30-40 years on that kind of budget, with international adventure hunts thrown into the mix.
I’m guessing more and more North American hunters will opt for an internstional sheep hunt instead of hunting one of the domestics.
Even guys that might already have a half slam today must be looking at the prices to complete the their slam and seriously consider Asia.
Assuming you don’t have...
I would like to take something physical home that will act as a far better recollection of the trip than any photo album could.
We are already prohibited from bringing any of the meat home (a shame) so the horns and hide are the next best thing.
