Been applying for years, I've got a good feeling that someone in our camp will draw a tag this year. Anyone else constantly checking for updates this AM?
When I talked to Santa's Smokehouse the other day, they said Al was working there now to pass the time, so you may be able to reach him and still see if he would be able to help with preservation and shipping.
RJ may also be able to help you out, he's gotten out of the taxidermy business but...
I spoke with someone from Santa's Smokehouse. They confirmed that they will have a reefer available for day use by hunters (expected to arrive and be setup Mid August), but it will be locked so will only be available during business hours Monday through Saturday. The guy I talked to was really...
I tried calling Al’s number but it’s just a busy signal. Any idea the reefer will be available for rent to hunters just wanting to freeze their meat? Unless I get an absolute stud I’m not going to bother shipping back antlers and dont need to spend $600 with trophy express.
Thanks for the heads up, Pikes looks like an amazing place, but a little spendy at $400-$500 a night during our time. I will contact Wrights to see if they’re willing to rent freezer space to non-clients.
I considered calling, but figured he was dealing with enough as it is working to identify and contact everyone with items that were in his shop. I saw where Alaska Trophy Express was still looking for an alternate location for holding meat/capes, I figured if Al was planning on renting another...
In the wake of the Fairbanks Fur Tannery tragically burning to the ground, I am doing some snooping around to try to figure out a way to get our meat frozen if were lucky enough to harvest a Caribou. Does anyone have any experience/ contact with another processor or taxidermist who might be...
Thanks Sam, I appreciate the offer! I'll try touching base with you a little closer to trip time. I also reserved a vehicle with you some time back but I need to reach out to make sure the reservation is OK (long story, but got a strange notification and call from the Fairbanks location where...
We're headed up this fall and had all the same questions and concerns. We decided to go in late August to (hopefully) hit the best compromise of less bugs, good number of caribou and fishing opportunities. We decided to hire an airboat transporter to take us to a good location on the other side...
I hope this isnt against the rules, please remove if it's not appropriate but as I'm making plans for my dad and I to take a trip up the Haul Road for caribou this fall I wondered if it might help us and some others out if we had a "gear exchange" list. I know there are a few things that are...

I can only get to 40 yards in my yard, so in the spirit of the challenge I made my target really small to make up...
No experience with non-copper, but I have found the Barnes 145 LRX to be in a real sweet spot for the 280AI. I'm getting 3100 with H4831SC and IMR 4350 (24" barrel), both give excellent accuracy and retain sufficient velocity to expand to 800 yards.
FMJ is a carbon core with an aluminum jacket, hence the FMJ (full metal jacket) designation. They're well documented to be prone to bending when not pulled straight from stiff foam targets and more tragically, if you take a fall in the field and land on the quiver.
I know a lot of folks love gold tips and Victory arrows, but I just cant support a company making their products overseas when there's an American-made option that's certainly equal and arguably even better. I'm set on Easton for that reason. I also love that you don't have to fool around with...
back when I used expandables, I would just make sure to use on the the cheap foam targets set up so I was shooting through the thinnest cross section. I would typically get pass throughs, but even if you don't you can just push the head through until it breaks through. then you just unscrew it...
