Tater - the future outlook is bleak based on the trajectory we are headed so far. With moose closures last year in the Peace where annual harvest was around 2% I believe and the bios say 5-6% is sustainable.....

I built my own grinder out of plywood. Used a Princess Auto (Canadian version of Harbor Freight) 1 hp motor:
52100 is great steel, I use it quite a bit. Have fun with the new hobby! Keep at it madtinker and the knives will keep getting better as you go.

I'm a fan. Without having to look at my scope I can tell by feel if the scope is set at low, med, or high. Also with the colder temps of late season some scopes seem to get stiffer and tougher to twist.
The last two years I did a caribou hunt in northern BC the last few days of august into the first few days of September. I used a 0 F EE quilt and on the colder nights wore my puffy. For reference - I tend to sleep cold.
Hi Opah, hang in there and get healed up! I have hunted with my kids - which is super fun (no grandkids yet). That 308 BAR should work good on hogs. I’ve never hunted them but they are on my bucket list.

Check the New Zealand forums, those guys run short barrels with suppressors. I'm not sure when Canada will get with the times and legalize cans, but i'd love to run one.
I have a 20" 7-08 Ackley and have shot animals out to 500 yards. An 18" barrel 280 AI or 284 would work for sure. Probably get 1 more round in the belly with the 280
I have cold feet and picked up the Hoffman pack boots a couple years ago. They are great. For the price I got 2 pairs of liners (the thick ones) so if hunting from home or wall tent can switch out for dry ones every other day. While I couldn't cover the same miles as my all leather Scarpas...

I think most backpacking tents (marmot, NF, msr, ect) are going to have your feet and or head hitting the walls. You might consider a a floorless plus liner for the snakes....maybe a SO cimmeron, or other. I currently have a Black diamond megalight (9x9...
