“They stand there on the roadside of National Parks and stare at you, how hard could it be?”
I was wildly fortunate to draw a CO moose tag in 2018. This post is just a few lessons learned, some of what I wish I knew last year as I ambled into this singularly amazing hunt. Also a little...
Go big. A couple pounds extra while you’re carrying light loads in daypack mode won’t be noticed. The utility of stuffing an entire mule deer in the bag, or significant chunks of an elk is worth it. I have a Kifaru Duplex Timberline 1, a large pack, 7200ci - this fall I filled it with the fur...
Just doing some wiki-ing:
150 gr (10 g) Hornady Superperformance SST
2,740 ft/s, 2,500 ft⋅lbf
About 150 fps slower than a .30-06 with the same bullet weight.
Sounds like a dead elk to me...
I tried to dye a blue cordura pack using the Rit method, black dye, but failed miserably. Some odd bits of cotton embroidery soaked it up, but the nylon just flat rejected it. Good luck, and have a plan for the 5-10 gallons of black acidic water that will be generated. :)
I replaced Greens with a set of Trophy Hunts last year, they felt about one click warmer and one click cushier. I have pretty high arches and didn't notice any relative lack of support. Down to $9.88 today, BTW.
Rots of ruck. I spent hours trying to dye blue cordura black. Failed abjectly. Then painted it with Krylon Fusion, which lasted less than a season before mostly flaking away. Retired the thing and bought a real backpack.
Consider the Gen III ECWCS Fleece, available for $30 at your local Army surplus store. Quiet in the brush, blocks a light wind, nice to move in on cool mornings.
You’re probably well aware, but the Shift draws an inch shorter than the Centroid for the same #cam. PC9 = 27” Centroid / 26” Shift. Carry on. Free bump.
Chevy's true push button "Auto 4WD" system seems to be what the OP is referring to, it works fine but is ultimately a really crappy compromise, in that vehicle behavior becomes less predictable. It's for soccer moms with no comprehension of physics. The driver should select the configuration...
Randy Newberg released a good video on this recently. Definitely pause and look hard at the risk/location graphic included at 1:32.

I'm very new to the Grand Dru club, coming off Asolo 520s. True to size, I can wear anybody's 12 and these fit. The grab your heel and won't let go, it's impressive. Did 8 moderate trail miles in them this weekend without any blisters or memorable hot spots. That said it will be a challenge...
Brand new, never used Large Duplex belt in Ranger Green. It's the new production, power pull style belt. Unbelievable how easy it is to cinch.
