Cool thread topic.
I've been looking into a heap of this more and more over the last few months, especially with a lot of the Chris Bee stuff floating around.
Some of the broadheads my mates and I are using down here aren't necessarily the best choice for maximum penetration, but the animals...
Your second shot looked way better. Your first shot almost looked like the opening of your fingers was a conscious decision.
Things I would consider, or try...
Try and lower your string shoulder a touch. I agree with Trumpkin that it looks like your elbow being a little high is contributing to...
This!
Lots of exercises may help with mobility, conditioning, flexibility, etc.
BUT, if you look at this situation more simply - you need to get stronger. Some people hate the idea of being a 'gym junkie', but honestly, some basic barbell training will change your life. If you drive your squat...
A lot of it is going to be personal preference and it will be difficult to properly decide what you like without trying them all. Some people on here seem to be in a position where they try plenty of packs and one just stands out as suiting them the best, and others (like me) have used a few...
When I walked the Kokoda Track with my Exo 5500 I had a 3L water bladder down one of the side pockets so it was easily accessible when I needed to top it up. On other backpack hunts I normally just stuff my stove, fuel cans, and nalgene bottles down the side pockets.
His first shot on the buff he ended up taking wasn't as good as you would think. Entry is about where you'd like to see it but the off-side leg was forward, to the exit was a little far back. You might be able to get awya with a shot like that on deer but not with a big critter like a buffalo...
I only pay half attention to this stuff because I live on the other side of the world, but I've listened to/watched a few podcasts with Bowmar regarding the poaching stuff. It seems there is a lot of misunderstanding in this space and maybe a lot of observers are reading interent headlines and...
Plenty of people down here have been shooting them a lot. I have a mate who has been shooting them most of the fallow rut and afterwards this year and he has no complaints. I saw one he shot into a piece of granite and it held together and still spun OK. People have been buying small electric...
A couple of pictures since I took my setup out on the weekend and killed some critters. I imagine I'll keep it like this for a fair while and it'll see use from now up to the fallow rut in April 2025 and further.
It'd be an interesting conversation to have. Bullsh*t and product obligations aside, would he take the same bow and arrow setup after buffalo again, or go with something a little heavier?
The placement is just as much of a problem, clearly. And we can't be too hard on him for that necessarily...
I believe the video shows Montec, but I read on some comments that the guide made him switch to a two blade.
Either way, the buffalo died but his placement with his first three shots was pretty bad. He made a post on his instagram biting back at some haters but the information was wrong...
I mainly use hinges. The last animal I killed was with a resistance release. Last time I killed an animal with a thumb button was back in March. Last time I killed an animal with a wrist strap index release was Feb 2019.
I'd be interested to see pictures of the shoulder straps and load lifters, both when the pack is at a moderate weight, and when it's fully loaded with meat.
We don't need to start making all the same points in this thread that were made in the other FORLOH thread, but the bloke who reviwed the...
Essentially the same setup for the last several months.
Hoyt Z1S.
77# @ 28in and 80% letoff. Mostly shooting a Scott Ascent hinge but picked up a 2 Smooth recently that I might shoot a bit. I've also started hunting with a Silverback mini + a bit.
Arrow setup is a 250 spine Crafted Archery...
For me, a lot of it comes down to pin gaps and a trajectory you can live with.
The common thing you will hear people like Ranch Fairy say is "you need to pick an arrow that's actually going to penetrate when plan B happens, and work back from there."
The other side of the argument will say "if...
It's worth making the point again that a new release won't necessarily solve problems. A button, hinge, or tension release, provide options with how to fire, but if you are deep down the target panic road, you need to make commitments mentally to shoot any release you have with proper technique...
