i read a lot about people recommending the 308 for the short barrel, what about a 30-06? has more powder to make up for the velocity loss of going short on the barrel?
Sig apparently designed the cross specifically with the increased chamber pressures in mind so the whole system can handle it. its doubtful it'll be recommended or safe to modify a "regular" bolt action to shoot the .277Fury rounds. It does sound like other manufacturers will make catridges...
Aint that the truth! I've been diving into this world for 2 months, this rabbit hole is DEEP. 270, 270WSM, 260AI, 6.5PRC, .277 Fury, 6.8 Western, 30-06, 7rem..... All are viable options. When you graph all of them, they're all very very close out to 200 yards and pretty close out to...
for a non-hand-loader, the 6.8 Western will be easier to get into shooting than a 270wsm rebarreled to faster twist, then start learning how to handload 270wsm brass......I may be in the minority, but i've been looking for this since I started looking 2 months ago to upgrade my 1990s BAR270.
did you hear the Army is replacing the M14 and SAW with a .277 caliber? Tons of .277 match bullets coming to a Fleet Farm near you.......once the big stockpile is over.
That's exactly what i want to do. just started diving into this modern hunting caliber arms race.
Bought my first Ultra 7 suppressor, now have to wait 4-14 months for ATF......
In the meantime, 6.8 Western, 270wsm, 277 fury......going to shoot for under 18" barrel suppressed. Can't wait.
If the 6.8 Western is a shortened 270wsm catridge, does anything need to be done to the bolt other than rebarreling a 270wsm donor gun?
does the bolt need to be longer, or is all that taken care of when a smith chambers the new barrel?
Sorry, newb to rebarreling.
I'm in the process of building a Tikka T3X something....its currently chambered in 30-06, and while the 6.5PRC and this new 6.8 Western are better in velocity, energy, BC, There's very few options in ammunition. When i looked at Federal Swift Scirrocco and Terminal Ascent, those weren't that...
If you buy a new barrel that is too large for the factory T3x stock, do people cut out or sand down the stock to make it fit? Will that work, or does that somehow screw up somthing with the stock so its accuracy goes way down?
see my BAR270 has a 22.5" barrel and I think if i had a little more weight out front it would have nice balance. So cut off 4" of that barrel and hang a 10 ounce supressor off the end, that's like hanging a 6 once weight on the end of my BAR270.......or so I was thinking.
You and me both! I've shot the same BAR 270 since i was 14, now 37. only on Whitetail in Wisconsin. I'm looking to also have an anything smaller than an Elk rifle Bolt Action, probably sticking with 270, and a larger gun for elk, caribou, moose if I ever go on one of those hunts. The problem...
So glad you posted this. I've used the same BAR 270 for 23 years (since i was 14), i've been using the same ammo for the past 12 years I'd guess, 270 Win 130 gr InterLock® SP American Whitetail® with great success. Shot 9 times, killed 9 deer. 6 dropped right where shot, and 3 ran 15-70...
i'm not worried about the recoil while hunting, been using a 270 since i was 14 with a plastic butt plate, but I actually want to learn to shoot out to 500 yards with this gun.
Hoping it'll be my "Anything smaller than an Elk" gun.
