Your dilemma is why I don’t shoot new model bows or test drive new trucks!
I did visit a new to me pro shop in town a couple of weeks ago and just handling a couple of the newer model bows really made me want to buy one and I nearly did but after a few weeks the urge passed. My advice give it a...
For bow hunting I prefer a separate range finder so I can use it with one hand. If I was a rifle hunter I’d definitely go with one unit for both. If it‘s dark enough that you‘re having to use your binoculars to find a shooting lane, it’s probably too dark to shoot. Lastly, you can always carry...
I use a sling like a Primos and carry the bow under my right arm with the sling over my shoulder. This has worked well over 10-12 horse back trips over the years. I once tried a bow scabbard but having to take the stabilizer and quiver off so it’d fit made that a non-starter for anything other...
At one point it was true but now it’s not so thanks for the correction.
The Deep Impact shafts in .250 spine I first bought years ago were exactly the same as the X-Impact in .250 spine. They no longer make the Deep Impact in .250 spine but the X-Impact still has the same specs as the original...
Assuming you’re shooting off the shelf, what fletch orientation have you found provides the least amount of wear on the feathers, the shelf and best flight?
Yesterday I messed around with trying to determine how to reduce wear on the shelf rug and fletch, I pulled out the pink lipstick and went...
I’m a big fan of Black Eagle Deep Impact or X-Impact shafts (same shaft, different labels). I order mine directly from BE. Not sure why you want shafts spine tested, it’s not really necessary anymore, as long as you buy from a high quality manufacturer. I used Carbon Express shafts for a few...
Check to see if your axle to axle (ATA) is in spec. If it’s shorter than spec that could be part of the reason. You or your pro shop can adjust ATA by removing twists in the cables, just make sure cam timing is also good when doing this.
I shoot Sevr expandables but don‘t have much experience with them on animals, except for one antelope, since they’re only used when things go wrong. There’s a recent review thread on here about them.
Years ago I shot the original German Kinetic Silver Flame 2-blade vented and they were super accurate at long distance and seemed less prone to wind planing than the 3 and 4 blade vented heads I shot during the same time period (Magnus Snuffer SS, VPA, Slick Trick, Shuttle T and one other...
Bow mounted quiver, 2-piece 5 arrow Tight Spot. I tried hip quivers and cat quivers for a few years each and went back to bow mounted quivers on both my traditional and compound bows.
I have questions:
Wouldn’t it be better to test flex in a draw board rather than a press?
Have you tested bows or seen tests results using both methods and is their a difference?
Have you also tested or seen tests that compared flex of carbon and non-carbon flagship bows from the same...
For what it’s worth, when my form was bad several years ago my arrows showed under spined and once I cleaned up my form I had to drop from a .340 to a .400 and increase the point weight 25 grains to get a clean tune. All that said I’d guess you’re over spined, because based on the group size you...
Question for you gap shooters. If I extend my arrow length my 2” how much could that reduce my point on range? Arrow speed is 190 FPS with a 460 grain arrow from my 50# longbow.
More detail:
I shoot split fingers and my point on is 60 yards with a 32” arrow. Needless to say, gap shooting...
Nevada has the most sheep in the lower 48 and I believe the most non-resident tags but don’t quote me on that. With the bonus point system in NV everyone has a chance but the odds aren’t much better than winning the lottery even if you’ve got 30 points as a non-resident.
Even as a resident my...
Good and proper form is the most important thing to learn from the start, otherwise it’ll take years to unwind bad habits. Aiming methods are secondary in my opinion but that‘s where most of the focus of books and videos is and has been. Unfortunately, I cant recommend good resources regarding...
