I did consider this. However, I was nervous about bumping deer that I couldn't see while still-hunting and the fog potentially lifting. Maybe that's an unfounded concern (and if the fog never lifts, it's irrelevant).
Thanks all - it was an awesome time and at least there were some deer around, just ran up against mother nature. Fog isn't as bad when treestand hunting and the longest you'd even shoot is 40 yards. When glassing, it's almost worst situation!
Hi all - I just put in a first-time mule deer hunt in Idaho, it was an amazing experience but I wanted to gather feedback on the hunt (I didn't harvest an animal, but still considered it successful).
A couple points to make initially, as I know most would probably point to these things first...
I run a 3-pin slider, 20, 35, 50, I can dial to 120 for practice but treat it like a fixed pin during hunting season.
I haven't missed a shot opportunity but was practicing recently and switched from 80 yds to 40 yds and had to let-down because I realized I needed to dial it back to zero...
First time posting on classifieds, so not 100% sure how to manage the transaction, but happy to work with someone on it.
Full Disclosure - this was a refurbished scope, but still comes with the usual Vortex warranty.
$450 or trade for comparable 12x50 or 10x42 binos.
Still have the packaging...
I have the new MBG whitetail ascent. It’s a great site for me as I hunt whitetail all year but go west once a year. It is a lighter, more compact sight. Not super expensive and perfect for a treestand. But it is adjustable so it doubles for a western sight for me as well. Works great and rock solid.
Not sure what your home or work schedule might be like but here are things I do with mine, I work from home for what it’s worth.
I walk my kids in a stroller in the morning with my pack on and weight 50-80lbs.
I cut my grass with pack on.
Brute Force sandbag w/ 50lbs, I bring with me...
I have a pair of 7x30 SLC that are like 30 years old from my father in law. I sent them to Swaro for a clean. It only costed me shipping to Swaro. They cleaned them up and they’re like new. I would probably only trade them out for another pair of alpha binoculars .
Is this just for you/one person?
For the money, there are a couple options for just getting into it that I found were a good value and served me well so far.
Luxe Minipeak (just became a sponsor on here) and Luxe trekking pole with tyvek, this can probably all be had for about $130 new...
Can’t speak to xop. But LW has been good for me. I run and gun LW Assault with LW sticks. The sticks are great but initially took time to get used to the single step. Everyone does it a little different, so depending on the intended use of it you might choose one over another.
I don’t sit much...
So far this is the best post I have read, not only in Rokslide, but in any forum or magazine. I appreciate the honesty and reality of everyone on this thread.
Through all the digging I’ve done on this I haven’t heard of anyone else paying more than $175. Not sure what’s different, here is the response.
hank you for giving us the opportunity to repair your binoculars. They have been received and evaluated and the following warranty work will be...
I just sent in a pair of 7x30 SLCs for clean & check and they said that the prisms were damaged (when I sent them, the image seemed fine). They are asking for $500 for a full upgrade. Do you feel that this is a reasonable price and appropriate based on your experience?
Mine are from 1990 (so...
