I hunt western PA. It gets pretty cold later in the year and by late flintlock it’s brutal most years. I too got tired of cobbling together hunting clothing. I bought a set of gear from Cabelas some years back, their Whitetail MTO or something. It was ok but bulky and very heavy. I still have...
I actually thought about camping from my truck but not sure about how? Where to park etc. and at that point t I’d probably tow a small camper with me. I like the idea of it gets me more time. I could probably stretch the hunt to seven days now that I’m crunching the calendar.
if I were to...
Gonna be tough. Active duty navy. Archery whitetail starts soon after and then a deployment later in the winter. Add in family stuff and the Labor Day holiday and I’m pretty tight on time through the fall. I’d love to do ten days but don’t think it’s doable. See how it goes.
I’m not a risk taker or adrenaline junky but I’m in good shape and smart woods-wise. I’ll have an InReach with me. And I know my mental and physical limits. But if there’s one thing I do love, it’s camping and being outside. My dad took us all the time when we were kids. Fishing, hunting and...
I’m going solo. After three seasons not working out with my hunting buddy for mostly work reasons and COVID last year, I am not waiting any longer.
I spent the last year shooting, tuning my gear, cycling, and studying here and everywhere on success and failure stories.
I have no illusions of...
there’s a lot of good advice in here. I’ve been hunting white tails since I was 12. Went along with my grandfather since I was five. Killed my first when I was 17. Seemed to get easier after that to tag a deer. I’ve been almost exclusively and archer for the last 25 years. Again it was a couple...
2019 Traverse 30.5” draw at 72lbs on my scale. Stan SX3 release SpottHog Fast Eddie five pin. QAD drop away rest. Seven arrow Tight Spot quiver with Eason Axis 260s Blazer Vanes and VPA 3-blade 125s.
my Halon 6 is set up exactly the same and I’m able to interchange arrows and the release as a...
Three years ago a buddy and I decided we are gonna try our hand at archery elk. We planned, practiced, acquired gear, gouge, and knowledge. His wife promoted and he had to be home through September while she went through some training(we are all military). So we made a plan to do it this year...
I have the butterfly closures also. And the super glue I keep in my bow maintenance kit which is just that, an Allen wrench kit and little bit of serving and some wax.
I’ve always had some first aid stuff with me whenever I have been out in the woods. Even on a day trip or a couple hours in a tree after work I have something. Band Aids or tape anything. But as i started doing backpack camping with my nephews and their scout troop I started with a dedicated...
I just started with a Stan SX3. Coming from years and years of using a wrist strap caliper style release I thought it would be a bigger change and adjustment. I’m settling in pretty good so far though the biggest challenge has been a new anchor for my hand. My kisser and peep are still the same...
This was the first time in almost 15 years that I bought a new off the shelf bow. A 2019 Traverse. I usually buy up last years or the year before models from the guys who buy the latest flagships every year and sell them for the next model year. Figure I can get a VRX next year for a great price!
My release came this morning. After a few dozen shots to get it adjusted I can say I am very impressed.
First I thought that I would have major issues with my anchor point but it settled in comfortable and my sight picture remained intact with my kisser button fallinright where it always has...
I will add that prep work is the key. I use acetone to clean out the inside and the outside of the insert and then I use some denatured alcohol to do the same all over again. You have to work fast with the five minute stuff. But that five minutes is the working time not the cure time. You still...
I’ve been looking at this and I’ve never suffered from target panick etc. but I do fear that a change is gonna mess me up until I get it figured out. The attraction to the thumb release is the adjustment and customization. Trigger type releases for me have been great but short on that stuff.
Years and years ago my first release was a thumb button style. Then I switched to a caliper style wrist strap and have been shooting that style for a long long time with good success. But I’ve been thinking of trying a thumb release again and I ordered a Stan SX3 to check out.
Any pointers...
