Bummer that the video is getting so much traffic it'll probably help them.
I'm sure they mean well. But Hopefull Ballistics doesn't understand ballistics at all, and neither does the host.
About 1/3 up on "the shoulder" is going to be top of the heart and lungs. As in the advice to shoot the crease. Many shoot farther back and actually do less damage.
This advice is usually with the idea of a broadside shot. Most need a refresher in anatomy.
I have my Great Grandfather's Ithica double 12. It has Damascus barrels. No idea when it was made, if he bought it new or what.
I do know my Grandpa shot a black bear with it that was stealing food out of his CCC camp during the great depression. Said the bear tasted ok, but he seemed happier...
Mine currently has a 4x12, I have used as high as 24x when shooting pasture poodles but on coyotes maxing out at 12~14x is plenty. Mirage and fov both suffer going higher.
I can't stand the high mounted chest holsters. To me it's unnatural to reach that high to draw..
I have need for an agc ravus compatible holster but want it behind or just below without a retention strap.
My son and his buddies had excited two bulls calling and the two bulls actually got into a sparing match. Clown road his quad up a "closed" road above them and bugled like crap. The fight stopped, the bulls split and ran out of the basin.
They learn quickly, and if they didn't leave after a...
From what I've seen, it ( tsx) needs quite a bit of speed to do much damage. Even then the wound channel is narrow. I used a 50gr ttsx out of a .223 on a doe broadside at about 60 yds with success, but probably won't use them again for anything but out the back door.
I had better results with...
I didn't care for the old AGC bino harness, but really like the new Ravus model. Like the harness really well, lid opens out of the way, and easily adapted to the situation. I have a RF pouch on the side, put the included pouch back on the bottom for glasses, and tourniquet. I chose it over the...
I hunted it twenty or so years ago when I was working down there. It's tough to find good animals. I only shot one good one. Fire station chief said it was the biggest he'd ever seen. IIRC it's only about 17" inside, nearly the same height. Don't have a pic on my phone, I'll have to take one of...
I know my friends uncle uses a TAC 20, (earlier wildcat became 204 Ruger basically) with great success.
I worked on a ranch in my teen years and met an old woman that was in her 90s which made the early 1900s her formidable years. She habitually shot everything with an old Winchester in 22...
I just went through this debate myself. Decided on the AGC Ravus. The RF pouch is separate, but the lids actually cover the pouches, they aren't particularly noisy, I liked the harness. Reeds tuck into the top of the flap, wind checker pocket on the side. Accessory pouch can be front or bottom...
This is pretty subjective as sometimes the high lumen lights aren't as useful light. I've found with some to much light reflects back into my eyes and I turn them down from the max settings.
The last one I bought was this one, but have not tried tracking blood with it. Ace beam
My most used...
I have been using an old carbon blade Old Timer trapper as my hunting pocket knife for a long time. It's been the only knife used at times. Generally speaking, I favor a fixed blade for actual work.
