Just make the general tags a draw for non-residents already. We all know its coming and it wouldn't be this stupid.
Just tried to get on before checking Rokslide and saw it was crashed and literally laughed out loud in my office. I wasn't even planning on buying a tag this year but was going...
I solo the majority of my hunts.
2022 - 3 solo hunts (1 pronhorn/2 elk; 2 of the 3 tags filled).
2021 - My dad went with me on my Utah General Deer hunt, but I hunted Colorado mulies solo.
2020 - 3 hunts/4 tags, had a buddy come with me on one of them, a unit close to home that we had both...
Similar to Jason.
I have long term plans (trophy hunts) and short term (opportunity hunts). Basically all of Utah, except general deer and antlerless, and Nevada is all trophy/long term status, putting in for “big time” units.
I’m at the same point level as the OP for AZ deer, I’m saving...
If you use straight water and don't put any sort of soap in the water, evening boiling water will not affect the color on the bases. I try to not have a lot of water touching the antlers in general. Put the head(s) in an empty pot, then fill to just cover the skull. The only time I have ever...
I’ve tanned a bobcat and a Blackbuck. I’ve used EZ 2000 Tanning solution. Should have thinned the Blackbuck and worked it more than I did to make it softer. It’s a lot of work. More work than sending it to a tannery and having somebody else do it.
I like to do something local-ish if having a post-kill beer. Otherwise I usually have some sort of Whiskey with me. High West Campfire if I can find it.
Second for 338 Federal. 200grain bullet running 2700ft/s still has over 2000 ft-lbs of energy at 600 yards (9 MOA drop at that distance, so not a flat shooter, but it is maintaining more than enough energy).
Montana Knife Company Speedgoat in Magnacut. Used on my Pronghorn and Elk (not exclusively) and still sharp as heck. Probably the "pokiest" knife I have ever had.
Dawson Knives Magnacut Deepnotch. Thought I would end up keeping only one of these knives by the end of the year. They are both...
I barely fit my bull elk between a K2 120qt and an Igloo 75. Had to cut the shank off of one of the front shoulders to fit it in the smaller cooler. I'm assuming anybody only using 1 - ~120qt cooler is deboning prior to getting an entire elk into a cooler. I was thinking for future elk...
Too bad that setup is no longer legal during muzzleloader seasons in NM after this year.
I would have a hard time putting $4k+ into a setup that seems to be trending towards being banned in most western states.
If I wasn't worried about that, Arrowhead all day. If I was. A Paramount Pro...
Other hunts all of you could get tags for pretty easy:
-Spring/fall black Bear (CO September Rifle seasons, WY/MT/ID spring tags)
-Spring turkey hunt in New Mexico (Merriam's in the mountains). Actually a pretty good primer to let them buy a couple points next year and get a feel for the...
Yeah. I can't say the accuracy changed much. Cutting the stock weight in almost half, it kicks like a mule. It's a 700 short action footprint, but you have to buy a new bottom metal or have the stock custom inletted to use the CVA ticket guard/bottom metal because it is a CVA specific layout. I...
My paramount is the original version. It had the adjustable green HMR stock on it. I restocked it to save some weight.
I also added the Arrowhead LRMP module conversion.
Just got back from the range with my Paramount and figured I’d throw out the accuracy I’m getting to answer one of the questions above. This is a 3 shot, 100yd group. Center to center is south of 0.5”. This is just a bipod on the front and a sand bag in the rear.
300 yards is my max with my Paramount. So far have only killed two mule deer with it. One at 125 and one at 280. The 125 yard shot, the buck dropped on the spot. The 280 buck ran about 30 yards and fell over dead.
280grain Powerbelt ELR rolling out at about 2400fps. Still has over 2,000ft-lbs...
