They make for very challenging wing shooting in the winter. White birds flying low above the cover with a white back drop, and flat white light. Gotta love it!
I've only got one bird mount right now, my emperor goose. But I've got a special to me rock ptarmigan dead mount at the taxi that should get done sometime in the next 6 months or so.
Other than that, I did some tail fan/wing boards for my kids' first grouse.
When I was a teen, my dad and I got invited down to South Texas to hunt does, hogs, and javelina on a friend's HF ranch. We thought it was going to be a walk in the park. High fence, baiting with corn? How hard could it be?
Holy shit it was a lot more challenging than we expected. The place...
Utah has a very unique definition of spike. To be a spike, at least one antler cannot branch "above the ears". So, technically, a bull with 2 brow tines and a main beam with no points would be a legal "spike" in Utah.
I've heard cowboy magic is pretty good for that. I know a number of folks that use Pam cooking spray pretty effectively too. She normally doesn't have that issue--but she also normally doesn't hunt more than 125-150 yards from me, so she normally doesn't have to stand on point that long in deep...
That's tough when a dog hits the end of their run. I used to have a "white" yellow lab and a teen, and I've always been a sucker for them ever since. It does look like that fella ain't missing any meals. You might be able to get a bit more zip out of him for another year or so if he can lean...
She's a pudelpointer. Normally she doesn't ball up with snow like that, but standing on point that long gave her body heat time to melt and have snow refreeze on her. My buddies with griffs this time of year usually have to cut their hunts short from the snow accumulation in their coats.
Go to a training day or test event with your local NAVHDA chapter and spend some time with some. I love my pudelpointers, but they aren't for everybody. Ava might not be the highest scoring dog out there and will never compete in Dos Perros' precious trials, but hot damn is she a pleasure to...
Had to work for this one today. Ava hit her point +300 yards uphill from me. Took over 30 minutes to ski up there in skins, but shockingly Ava and the birds held steady.
She was not happy when I didn't have it in me to keep chasing the rest of the flock after they took off.
No. Marketing means, "the activity or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising."
Buy low in one place and sell high elsewhere is called arbitrage.
And without talking to your neighbor first about doing this, completely ignoring...
I've been running a Zpacks triplex in Alaska since 2018. In that time I've got about 100 nights in it, and have lent it to buddies for nearly that many nights as well. No leaks, no delaminations, just great. One buddy had a couple guy lines break when he borrowed it and he contacted Zpacks and...
As a resident, I'm not who you're asking to hear from so my apologies in advance. It's an interesting take, and certainly adds to the discussions elsewhere online with guides/outfitters claiming the 2-3x increase in pricing over the last decade hasn't been lining their pockets any thicker...
I'd imagine 8hrs without wrapping is going to be too long. I'd probably bring them up to 165° then wrap in butcher paper with lots of butter and back in the smoker to finish. Or, I'd cover them in butter entirely (lard, duck fat, or bacon grease would work too) and cook in the oven at 225...
Not every tracking dog is willing to track bears. When looking for help in teaching a wounded bear, always ask if the dog has blood tracked bears successfully before.
