    ZEISS Victory Harpia-Thoughts

Here is the official rokslide review explaining the wide FOV and only downside to these spotters (exit pupil changing). I have the 95 and zero complaints. https://www.rokslide.com/zeiss-victory-harpia-85-spotting-scope-review/

    Deer movement hoopla...

Agreed! Hopefully they can take their data and refine their original study! A deer can easily move 1+ miles in that small time frame. If all they do is walk around checking scrapes/does for those 15 minutes that increase your odds dramatically. Weather definitely affects their day light...

    223 69g TMK: best powder

I have been lucky with cfe223 and varget - if one doesn’t work the other always has in my rifles. I start with cfe (higher velocity) if I can’t find a load there varget always works. CFE I never get close to max before pressure signs. I usually do .2 gr increments starting 1-1.5 grains below...

    Doe's still yarded up

Does are hitting food sources in family groups now getting ready for winter. Ag fields have been harvested so they will be more concentrated now. Bucks are getting ready for the rut plotting out what doe bedding areas they will pillage starting end of next week. They are moving mainly in the...

Is there a 308 factory loading with better numbers than this?

Hornady 178gr eldx Black hills has some comparable rounds - personally haven’t shot any, but I get 2750 with an 175gr tmk (they offer the same round). Anything in the 165-180gr range will be doing ~2600-2800fps kind of splitting hairs, just need to find what your gun shoots best.

How should I hunt this Deer? - NEED OPINIONS

This is very true from my experience/research - late summer/September is a great time to get an inventory of bucks in the general area. They have since moved (my deer go .5-2 miles away) and are currently out rubbing/scraping/exploring/eating. Now is when most ppl educate them - bump a mature...

    Do Hunters Effect Antler Genetics

If you want to learn more about it research - “phenotypic gene expression based on maternal health” You can dig further and read about the effect of this over generations and it gets more interesting. At the end of the day you need big buck genes to produce big bucks BUT you will never see...

Iowa is experiencing worst EHD breakout in history

Sad to hear that! Looks like we might have a chance of a freeze and some rain starting mid mid month, wish it got here sooner!

Iowa is experiencing worst EHD breakout in history

The last few weeks Ive been expecting to hear reports of it in our area, but so far nothing yet. Conditions have been ideal since late August in eastern Nebraska (hot, dry, ponds drying up).

    Suppressor/lightweight rifle question

Check out this info - there is information from other people comparing this to other light weight options. I believe general consensus is this is currently the best short/light weight option for hunting. https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/silencerco-scythe-ti-review.332996/ The info posted...

2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD ZR2 - Gas or Diesel for primarly hunting?

Tough call! GM Diesel 2500/3500 trucks suck for mud/snow/ice/off road. The diesel shines when pulling very heavy loads or reasonable loads up steep grades. We currently have a gm 3500 and it never leaves the yard without a trailer hooked up. Just need to decide what is more important -...

    Do Hunters Effect Antler Genetics

habitat/feed quality due to location/weather/competition for the herd is the main driver based on the studies I have seen. It also takes YEARS of a healthy herd to produce high numbers of “trophy deer”. I think of it as follows - Every buck has a “max potential” based on genes alone. Consider...

    Backpack?

I use a cheap ALPs pack for treestand hunting for exactly what you are describing. Like a 2500-2700 size that pop up on camo fire for well under $100. I can carry my bibs, coat, antlers, calls, hats, gloves, harness, bow hanger no problem. Cheap comfortable and quiet!

22-250 - How Much Magnification For The Optic

9x/10x max works fine for what I do. Most shots will be 100-150 max (can’t really see any further most stands). More open country I would have at least 12x - 14-16x ideal and 18-20x would be fine also. Right now I have a few 2.5-15x trijicons on the varmint guns and like them.

MPA Ultralight vs XLR Element magnesium

Lighter gun on top of the tripod (more stable) would be the major advantage - otherwise the other beneficial features look to be the same. I use an element for night hunting - built in arca rail, folding stock, adjustable buttstock, and pistol grip are all the key features I like.

Took a doe from a group of 8

I would say that is pretty normal. If doe use a trail daily and they bust you the smart ones aren’t coming back.

    Yet another tuning question....

“Errant fliers” - will be repeatable if you have a bad arrow or component. Mark that arrow when it happens. If it’s not repeatable it’s your form. If your peep is turning it’s not in your string properly and will always be an issue, pretty easy fix (move more strands of string to other side of...

    Yet another tuning question....

A lot going on here - did you confirm timing after you changed cables/string? If not get that in spec before doing anything else. Also something to note - you should always measure your new strings/cables before putting them on and confirm they are in spec. Your comment about needing a ton of...

    The 22 creedmoor thread

Thanks for all the info shared on this thread everyone - appreciate the no BS info! Been kicking the can down the road for a few years waiting to build one, so I can kick my 22-250 habit. Ordered a few hundred rounds of 80gr eldm today - will use 100 to break in the barrel right away and then...

    Adding foc changing spine?

Difficult to tune - less forgiving if you do get it tuned are your symptoms. Basically it takes your arrow more time/distance to correct/stabilize in flight.
