Black Friday deals on thermal vision?

Scopes won’t be as easy to pocket as the smaller monoculars, but mainly due to larger objectives and mounts. AGM, Bering optics, Iray, pulsar(scanners). They will keep getting cheaper as warranty runs out and tech keeps improving!

Black Friday deals on thermal vision?

The only reason I asked is the new scopes have driven the price of the older 35mm 384 scopes way down. A 640 resolution scanner with a range finder is only $2500 now. Those older ones can be had for around $1000 now. Buying a used 384 scope set up as a scanner will be way better vs the ones...

    Tracking whitetail

Sounds like a low shot - brisket will bleed a lot and can look like a good lung shot combine that with a single lung and blood trail looks like a done deal, but it’s not. I would not waste time and get him shot before he gets bumped again. The fact that he bedded so fast is a promising sign. If...

You can go back in time…

I’m going with cellular trail cams. It makes it way too easy. For out west - I’m going with credit cards. The Ability to apply for a ton of tags, without having the actual cash rubs me the wrong way.

How many have missed animals due to a failed scope?

Not flat out missed but poorly shot and had to be tracked down YES. Grew up with a hunting budget of $0 so had to borrow guns for the first few years where I learned killing a deer with a Simmons scope was messy and lot of work.

    Feedback on Whitetail Shot

Great buck! Glad you found him - knowing exactly what happened is much better than not! Sharing is also good, because it might help others down the road! I would agree with others that your shot likely wasnt what you thought it was. When looking through your peep (animal completely fills up...

    Advice for a newbie

Well your not wrong! I’m in nebraska - most of the state has a road every mile. Since those sounds are on every foxpro it doesn’t take long to educate them multiple times, hell maybe even 5 days in a row. I would guess that the average caller here educates at least 9 coyotes for every 1 they...

Day Pack Weight- How much is too much?

My pack weight varies greatly. Good weather during archery season and I am 20-30lbs. End of the day it’s super light with no food or water! Rifle hunt in poor weather with spotter and I am adding another 10-15lbs pretty quick (spotter 4.5lbs, tripod 2lbs, heavier layers 2-4lbs, heavier weapon...

Pads slide, but you will want both. Sounds like you are prepared though!

How to extend temp rating of sleeping bag

Thermarest foam pad under your normal pad helps. These are cheap! Not sure what your current pad is? Sleeping with puffy layers on helps. Putting a heavy blanket or another bag over your sleeping bag. Using hot hands body warmers in your bag also helps.

Fighting boredom in all day sits.

It can be a GRIND, but if you do it right there is only a few slow hours mid day. I only plan all day sits when conditions are perfect, so that helps prevent burnout. Most days the wind forces me to change stands and gives me a break. All day sits I need a back up battery for my phone!

    Neck shot ethics

I have shot dozens of white tail with a neck shot simply because it guaranteed they would drop where they stood. Never needed a follow up. Good rest, calm animals and 100% confidence I will take it every time if needed.

    Dialing elevation for coyotes

I have never dialed, just used hold overs if needed. Most daytime coyote calling success ends up with them in your lap. If I was hunting very wide open terrain/large tracts of public and wanted to shoot them on the drive/walk in, then yes ranging/dialing would be useful.

    Advice for a newbie

Great advice right here! Remote range, volume, and custom sounds are a must in my book. PM me if you want tips on sounds - the factory ones posted here are great, I used them 15 years ago with great success BUT so did everyone else and they quit producing in pressured areas.

Return of the a Achilles tendinitis

I’m about ready to tape my ankle in place before bed every night so it stays extended 😐 while I sleep. I have been dealing with the same thing for the past few years, but I haven’t found anything that helps a ton. Like mentioned above my right ankle was sprained repeatedly in HS sports and it...

    When to quit?

Sometimes people get lucky and put themselves in the right place at the right time. When they do it on a regular basis they aren’t just lucky they are good hunters. You said you run cameras - do you see deer on camera on a regular basis? If so that is a slam dunk! If you don’t then I don’t...

22ARC or 6ARC for coyotes under 500 yards?

I would do the 22. For thermal hunting I want higher velocity/flatter trajectory and the 22 has the edge. At 200 yards you have a ~4” target you are trying to hit and you are probably shooting 2moa+ at that distance. So whichever gun is flatter I would expect more hits with.
