    22 Hornet for Deer

You entirely missed the point off my post. I did not state anyone needs a 300PRC (which they cannot shoot accurately) to kill a deer or elk. My point was targeted at the various 22 caliber available to hunters. With the exact same bullet: - The 223 is objectively better than the 22 Hornet...

    22 Hornet for Deer

The velocity range is only important because it is a huge factor in making sure there is enough energy to allow the bullet to perform. At some point, it is irresponsible to hunt game with bullets that are very small going at marginal speed. The animals are precious and should not be wasted...

Thoughts on new 6.8 Western cartridge

Does anyone know the correct Hornady Headspace comparator bushing for 6.8W? My google attempts failed.

    280 ackley vs 6.8 western

I was at Bass Pro today (sales tax free weekend on clothes) to buy my daughter hiking shoes. Most loads available 30-06 and/or 270. The 270 isn't going away anytime soon. Other really popular cartridges based upon number of loads: 308, 6.5CM, 7mmRM, 243. 6.5 PRC - Two Hornady loads 7PRC -...

    280 ackley vs 6.8 western

I disagree with your assertion that that the .277 is not a popular bullet. - For target shooters, I agree. - For hunters, I strongly disagree. For over a century, the 270 Winchester has been a big seller. Now that there are heavy for caliber hunting bullets available, I expect the 277 to...

Hornady Match - grains vs recoil for 6.5cm

I recently was told (could be bad info) that the original bullets used in the 6.5CM were in the 120g class to keep recoil down at matches.

    Hearing protection at the range

I bought the plastic ear plugs that mold to your ears. Not the most comfortable, but better than the foam at noise protection. At the range, I use muffs over the top of them. I am already nearly deaf in one ear. We are under a roof and there is a wooden barrier (to prevent people from...

Browning X-Bolt Pro or Tikka in a Carbon Stock **POLL**

I have a X Bolt Mountain Pro and a Tikka Roughtech. Converting to the choice you made: prefer the Browning. 1) The actions are equally slick 2) both are well built 3) The Tikka 24" barrel is noticeably "slow" vs box velocities. The Browning 24" barrel is as fast or faster than box...

    280 ackley vs 6.8 western

One of my regular rifles is a 280AI, but I recently bought a Browning Mountain Pro 6.8W which is much lighter.

I think the 6.8W is here to stay.

Tikka Lite versions have a stainless actions. The Roughtech is blue.

Tikka T3X Lite, Compact, or Roughtech - Compliment to AR10?

If it matters to you, the regular version has a stainless action and barrel.

Tikka T3X Lite, Compact, or Roughtech - Compliment to AR10?

Were you able to get the Roughtec barrel threaded after it was cut? I though it was hard/impossible to get a fluted barrel threaded once you reach the flutes?

How did the 6.5 Creedmoor lose steam so quickly?

IMO - it is taking a lot of sales from 308 on the high end and 243 on the low end as the standard deer rifle for non-Western deer hunters. They are stupid easy to shoot well and will kill a deer effectively.

Changing main hunting rifle, what to do?

If you are going to go to a 6mm of some kind, it would be cheaper to buy a new Tikka than to have it rebarrel. Can the current barrel be threaded for a brake or a can? I use a can exclusively and it really tames the recoil.

    Dead Air E Brake

I have a Nomad and removed the KeyMo system because it serves no purpose on a hunting rifle vs a direct thread mount. With a direct thread mount, I get a lighter setup. I have no experience with the E-brake b/c the Nomad knocks down recoil to good levels on my 270 and 280AI. They are babies...
