Ever had a knife that you just can’t seem to get sharp?

I'm generally ok at sharpening things, but have a set of woodsman broadheads that I can not get to take an edge for the life of me. They looked like the end all be all traditonal broadhead on paper but ended up delegated to bunny duty.

    Ammo shortage

CCI 10mm is the same price as any bottom of the barrel 9mm I've been able to find. Which is a flimsy but valid excuse to buy the glock 20 I've always wanted.

    holy C$#@ new swaro/outdoorsmans binos

I'm sure they're spectacular, but I got a laugh comparing the price of these binos to the price I was recently quoted for Lasik. It's cheaper to get new eyeballs than new binoculars.

Anyone ever leave a light on to help find camp?

Cheap red bicycle commuter safety lights will blink for a couple days to a couple weeks off of the same AAAs you pack in for your headlamp.

    Ever find a trail camera?

I just smile and walk by. It's tempting to check the card, but I'd hate to mess with someone else's metadata or settings. Cameras that look grossly misplaced or abandoned could belong to an agency or researcher who are studying something other than the usual game animals. These folks usually...

What's the Best Way to Fly With Fish?

I've had great luck flying frozen filets home with a cheap styrofoam and cardboard fishbox cooler. Dry ice is more trouble than it's worth, and conventional ice isn't allowed on board if it looks "melted". Ice packs are the best way to go. Whenever I fly with anything slightly out of the...

    Bear Meat is delicious.

I love bear meat. I just roasted up a hindquarter for a get together and folks are it down to the bone. I seared it in a dutch oven for ten minutes, then roasted it at 325 for four hours in a sweet and sour sauce made of lemon juice, brown sugar, honey, and cloves. Another kinda kooky recipe...

    Knight Bighorn Sale

I shoot a knight bighorn and use a No Excuses 460 grain bullet on top of 70 grains of 777. There's also a .125 card from Track of the Wolf Inc. between my powder and bullet.

    Catching Big Trout

As far as conventional tackle goes, rapalas are my favorite lure of all time. So much so that I feel like I'm cheating on them by suggesting a trout HD lure instead. Trout HD lures are basically a synthetic rapala/rattle trap hybrid that work incredibly well, though you may want to upgrade the...

    What hunt doesn’t interest you?

Turkey. Requires sitting still and conflicts with spring bear.

Hunting pronghorn over water for the first time - any tips?

The weather kinda screwed me. The week I had off was very rainy, and just about every pothole and rut filled up with water. With a million different places to drink from, the pronghorn weren't too keen on coming in to any one specific water hole. I did some driving and did find groups to put...

    Idaho 32-A

Yeah, in the Mica drainage. It honestly surprised me quite a bit because so far as I know, they're not supposed to be in the unit. Probably a wayward individual from the McCall area.

    Idaho 32-A

Hello Rokslide, I drew a spring bear tag in 32A. I normally spot and stalk spring bear in the end of the season in unit 35. The Weiser River zone in April is a lot different than the Sawtooths in the June rut, so I'm pretty out of my element. I've spent the second week of April glassing...

    Tiger King

I normally can't sit though a single episode of anything. I sat through this entire series in a night. Fiction is obsolete now.

    Its all in the wrist

I also had the same thing in the same spot. Like others have said, the doctor called it a ganglion cyst. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's impeding your range of motion or hurting you somehow. Mine went away when I got my wrist slammed on a table due to being really bad at arm wrestling.

    Barns TSX performance.

I've shot 180s out of a Tikka 30-06 with good results. I'm thinking of dropping down to 150s now that I'm back in the lower 48 and my stash of heavier bullets is almost gone. Does anyone have any powder suggestions for pushing a 150 grain ttsx out of a tikka '06?

    Trail Cam Suggestions

I've spent a lot of time with three makes of camera. Here's my unscientific impression. Reconyx are probably the most reliable by a slight margin, but can and do still fail. They also have awful sensor bands. Animals can walk through the frame and not trigger the camera. I've missed moose...

    Whats your name boy?

As a younger guy, I moved into a new house with four friends. Come summertime, a bunch of yellow-belied marmots came out from under our house. I thought they were pretty great until they chewed the wiring out of my truck. I killed dozens of them with snares and a stickbow. I also kept one as...

Boise area----anyone know who will work/sew on sleeping bags????

I got a pack repaired at Outdoor Exchange on Grove Street several years back. It was very reasonable and the repair has held up.

    Pack for hunting and travel

I don't know where you're planning on traveling internationally, but you may want avoid buying a bag with a camo pattern. Several friends and I have had customs agents take serious issue with camo bags in Central America. I also know one lady who got her hideous pink mossy oak day pack...
