With moose and Bou, we put one qtr in each bag, all of the loose meat together and both ribs in one bag. We use the old school Real Macoys and just keep reusing them. I would like to try the tag bags just because of how much smaller they are, just look fragile for reuse but that's said with zero...
I used to use the Cabelas bags until they changed them. I too was on the lookout for another option. I started using these a few years ago and have been happy so far. We go through quite a few bags every year and have been happy so far.
In my opinion, it's going to be hard to beat your 44mag for your trip, unless you just want another pistol. The small pistols are light and all but if you Need your gun then you will wish you had your 44! I recomend a Diamond D Guide holster too. Have a great trip!
I've left black bear hides in a freezer for over 2 years and they were fine. It was put in the freezer within 2-3 days of shooting it and after it was sealed.
We can a lot of salmon and I really enjoy it. I learned that adding things while canning, I couldn't really taste and I'll just add things when we eat it. Salt is the only thing we add. My question is canning meat the same? Should I just add salt and flavor when preping for eating? I'm hoping...
I own a few of the reflex sights and I put one on my puma 92 454 Casull. It worked amazing, just like on my revolver until I used it on a deer hunt out in Pricne William Sound. When it gets wet from the rain, you get all kinds of red dots! haha. I used the cover to try and keep it dry until I...
Our favorite has always been liver/heart and onions with a side of fried potatoes. Usually not that evening but maybe the next day. A lot of times the next day is taking care of meat. The evening of is usually Bourbon, sometimes Scotch, neat..
We have to burn spruce too and tried the spark arrester. It is pretty sparky wood and kept plugging up our arrester mesh and dampening the fire. We finally just removed it and haven't used it 15 years or so. Different tent setup but I do see what you mean that now the sparks go pretty high in...
Can I ask you guys that use the rechargable headlamps how they do in the cold? Does it shorten the life quite a bit? I really like the idea of using rechargable but I am a little afraid about taking into the field for multi day hunts. We are usually out for 7-14 days and have no way to recharge...
Going moose hunting, I had a buddy bring a dolly, a metal pick up a bunch of boxes type. Had to weigh a good 35#. This is on a trip that required a 5 hour truck drive then a 2 hour boat ride. He thought he could pack out quarters with it. It was a new spot and I was like, is there a paved road...
Here is another great article to read. I haven't bugeled elk, but pretty much like every species you hunt, it takes a lot of trial and error because every animal and every scenario is different. Good luck
I guess the pilling isn't causing any major issues other than I imagine it doesn't do anything for the DWR! Besides, if its wet out then I just put my rain gear on.
I have owned a kenai for about 6 years-ish and I do like it but am having an issue that I'm wondering if anyone else has seen. I usually use it as an outer layer over a fleece shirt when I get chilled. I like how it packs pretty well and I don't get all clamy while walking like I do with my down...
I'm not really sure how many hunters have had grizzly or brown bear encounters, like a false charge or or jump one while out hunting. Also not sure how many have got the opportunity to shoot a grizzly. I get not wanting to lug around a heavy sidearm for something that will probably never happen...
I have a question about accuracy issues. I bought my son a beautiful model 70 in 338WM for his graduation present. Its blued with wood stock. He picked the rifle out and loves it. The problem we are having is it isn't very accurate. Aren't new to rifles and went through all of the normal things...
I bought a few pairs of the insulated kinko gloves that had that extra leather on the palm and fingers. Gave my boys each a pair and I kept one. I used their nikowax stuff because it came with the gloves. Unfortunately they are so thick and stiff that I can't bend my fingers! haha Heck, my hand...
I can appreciate what you are doing. I'm a fan of sno-seal and have been using it on my gloves and boots for years. The best benefit is how fast they dry after being out in the rain. The wells lamont gloves don't work well for me because that pad area in the palm tears off. Have you noticed that...
