Going to try the Elk Bros soloist bugle tube as I’ll likely be calling for myself.
And I got an Ultimate Predator Decoy I may mix in.
Everything else from my bow, pack, and optics down to my socks and underwear will be the same.
I have killed 0 mule deer nor have I attempted to so my opinion is probably useless but I’ll give it anyway.
Hunt how you’re comfortable and skilled, within reason. If you can’t sit still to glass, you’re not going to have fun and you’re likely not going to watch for detail enough to really...
Gotcha. Ya. I went down a similar search last year after washboard road kicked my ass for a ten day elk hunt. I think this year I am going to try airing down to 20ish PSI and see what that does before I go crazy spending money.
Have you already taken it out on rough roads and weren’t happy?
Just curious. Speed bumps don’t necessarily equate to off pavement performance, but I found it to be a buttery smooth ride over any pavement bumps. I also drove a non FX4 and the difference was noticeable.
@SteveAndTheCrigBoys did your F-150 come with the FX4 package? Just curious because when I test drove one, it was eating speed bumps at 35-38 mph that knock me out of my seat in the Tundra at 27-28 mph.
Unsolicited third option warning:
I’ve considered the DST for years, but honestly think the Warbonnet Ground Tarp is far superior for my uses. Having the ability to close off the sides to keep weather out without using a bunch of material and losing floor space is a big deal to me...
Spend $1000-2000 on an aftermarket screen. Recommend at least 9” but 6-7” will do. Can run OnX and Gaia in CarPlay.
It’s going to be way cheaper than buying a new truck.
So most of us wouldn’t spend the night without one, but I will say a former marine hunting partner went three years without a sleeping pad and his sleeping bag wasn’t that great either. We finally pressured him into buying one for next season and a better sleeping bag. He’d just sleep on his...
Just politely ask for a copy of the contract and for them to tell you where the language is that states you have to be employed at the time of payout.
It is pretty standard in manufacturing for this to be the practice, but I can’t speak for medical field.
I have three or four pairs. They work well for me. No complaints.
I previously wore meriwool but they jacked up their prices and the groin area on them wears out very quickly…maybe that’s just me though 😜
Bring all the water you’re going to need for the trip in the truck. Some units in NM literally have no businesses where your can replenish your water. In our unit last year, we only found one water source on public land that wasn’t a livestock tank, and that was a wet year! It rained almost...
Seems heavy for a first aid kit. It’s obviously a personal preference, but depending on the area, I’d op for bear spray over a pistol and save 1.5#.
Amazon has a tripod that is fine for binos and weighs 1# for like $100.
I’ve never needed bug spray in September in the mountains but that is...
Have a family vacation in mid June. My in-laws rented a house in Evergreen. My wife and young kids are going to come out early and camp for a couple days before the rest of the family shows up. Would like to stay within 90 minutes of Evergreen.
I’ve checked out all the USFS sites in the area…a...
If you’re open to floorless, hard to beat the weight and size of the Warbonnet Ground Tarp.

Is there water all over where you hunt? I drink at least 2.5 liters per day. Even if you only drink 1.5-2, that’s filtering like four times a day. I can’t remember a single day elk hunting 4-5 units in two states where I found more than two decent water sources where I was hunting.
