I think a pack is kind of like “good boots”. It all depends on who’s wearing them. I’ve owned kifaru, and mystery ranch and now seek outside. All are great packs but I think the SO is the most comfortable that I’ve used. I’ve carried about 80lbs in each and don’t care about carrying much more...
For what it's worth, I opted for the two deeper pockets (not zippered) and I use a water bottle holder on the hip belt. I like the versatility of it being set up like that. It's simple and easy and it works for me.

I did something similar. Put a piece of 1/2” banding material about 10” long on the backside of the belt and put shrink tubing over it. Really similar looking. It was able to keep the “teeth“ of the belt in contact with the tree but it stiffened it up

I've never sprayed my boots, but I do wear warm weather gaiters that I keep a lot of permethrin on for off trail stuff in the summer. Might be a way to keep from having to spray on your boots??
