I've got a bushbuddy stove, it's identical or nearly so to the Solo lite, but was developed 10+years before the Solo.
Really like it. It doesn't boil water as quick as liquid fuel or canister stoves, but it still does so surprisingly fast.
The biggest con is that all your fuel (twigs, dry...
Among other things, interesting/confusing.
The House just passed a significant amendment to P-R a couple weeks ago (RAWA-Recovering America's Wildlife Act), that adds 1.3B a year for work on let's call them, species of concern. Where the additional monies would come from is still unclear, but...
You bet. Wish I still had my copy, I'd read it again, its that good. Took it with me on the Kobuk for a couple weeks in 1995, which made it seem a little cooler I suppose.
Thanks for the report.
I haven't shot any of the Buffalo Bore 190 loads but I got some of the bullets from Lehigh and will be loading them up for my S&W 1006. Am hopeful that 180gr loads with less expensive bullets shoot the same out of my gun also.
If the lake you're landing on is of any size at all, probably worth taking an inflatable of some kind.
I've got a PR49. Looks something like what Walt (above) built himself. You can find the specs online. Great idea to bring float vests & 3 or 4 piece "kayak" paddles too.
A couple weeks ago...
Just like you I'm sure, it depends on the temps and how much I move around.
But something I got just a few years ago & really like, even when I'm moving around a lot is the Simms mid layer bib. Has stirrups so they don't bunch up too.
Bear skulls can look nice simply placed on a nice block of wood. A friend had a big brown bear skull he happened to set on a wooden chess set box; the top is inlayed light & dark wood for the "checkers". It looked so good he left it displayed that way.
I would think placing them on a nice...
An outfit I've worked for as a small side hustle does moose/grizzly combos, in probably the very best area for moose (quality and quantity), and that is also of the best areas for Interior grizzlies.
All of the guided hunters would get a good bull, and something like 1/3 to 1/2 of them or so...
A lot of great advice above, probably can't add to it.
Another part of packing though, is packing yourself. Mentally & physically. Relative to a bad landing.
Listen to the preflight: where's the safety gear, how do you open the door & window, etc.
I keep a few key things in my pockets like a...
Agree with above relative to Girdwood spots.
Also in Girdwood, you can go on a helo trip with Alpine Air, maybe land in a cool spot for what you had in mind.
Steve-not sure what you're looking to do with it, but I've used a number of different packs over the years and a few years ago settled on a Seek Outside, Revolution Fortress.
.
Light - about 4 lbs.
.
Waterproof!!
.
Large - with the added outside pouch that you can use as a daypack, almost...
The refrigiwear coveralls and similar Walls Blizzardpruf coveralls are pretty much standard outerwear for trapping etc in those temps.
You'll still want/need to dress well under them though, with decent weight long underwear (showing my age!), fleece pants, a solid down or synthetic parka, neck...
None that I'm aware of.
Just went off the manufacturers specs as compared to others. Brenneke makes a load or two that are even more stout, but with a fair bit more recoil. Staff that carry them are a broad spectrum of sizes and experience, and that was a consideration.
A couple more recent ones.
S&W 1006. DA/SA 10mm. Picked it up a few years ago practically NOS. I carry it in a Simply Rugged 'Cuda holster. Handles like a prom queen.
And a sweet .480 Ruger Alaskan. Always walked past these, but now I know better. Slides right into a Galco holster. Does...
Great job getting the kids out & involved, and especially getting it written up in the Times.
I used to help with that hunt when I lived on the K Penn, too far of a drive now.
Is Roy still killing stuff with a spear ?
