    Optics in Extreme Cold

Sometimes you have to let your optics cool down to match the outdoor weather conditions. The bigger the optic the longer the cool down . some astronomers use a small fan to help

    Alternative to the BTX.

Just trying to help, I only know this because optics started in astronomy for me. Where 1.25 eyepieces are are popular discussion. I hope one day hunters see the attraction of fixed magnification eyepieces again vs zoom eyepieces

    Alternative to the BTX.

1.25 eye pieces are standard eye pieces that are very popular in the astronomical telescope community. With lots of different manufacters and endless options in magnification, FOV, and AFOV. The beauty of the Pentax and the scope you mentioned is that they take 1.25 standard eyepieces which...

    Alternative to the BTX.

I always wondered if a bino viewer would work in the well regarded Pentax ED spotting scopes. Since it takes 1.25 eyepieces as well

    Small Spotter vs Binoculars

Nice, but way to heavy for me on a couple of mile hike. Twice the weight of 15x56. Plus you still deal with one eyed viewing but everyone has their preferences

    Small Spotter vs Binoculars

All spotters do, hence why I prefer the 15x56

    Small Spotter vs Binoculars

^^^^ this.…..But I recommend the fixed magnification eyepiece for the ED50 for better field of view and nicer image. Can be had for under $450 but the 15x56 bino would be my choice overall

    15x binoculars or spotting scope

This is the view from where I live. the furthest point on the coast is about five miles away. So I play with a bunch of optics constantly. I keep going back to 12x/15x on a monopod or tripod. Anything under a mile I prefer handholding 7x. I rarely pull out the scopes anymore. I get the urge...

    Low light rangefinder?

Without a doubt the Leica. I was surprised I could use it for astronomy…although the FOV was limited (for astronomy use)

Do it all spotter for a reasonable price

The best all time deal with amazing glass that never disappointed anyone is without a doubt the gray market Nikon ed50. It’s a favorite among optic snobs for a reason plenty of Japanese Nikon dealers sell them for $300 with 27x eyepieces going for $140

    Clint Smith on rifle scopes

The video is from medium range rifle class. What Clint means by “just fling it at them” is hitting a 10 inch target at 700 yards while you still have the moment of opportunity. ….thats 1.5 MOA! He later discussed how guys spend 5-10 minutes playing with scope adjustments, ballistic calculators...

where to take my glass set up

Great post! I agree 7/8x are awesome for handholding, big views start at 15x, 12x are the great compromise for long distance viewing I will add, since 15x requires a tripod and are so big, might as well upgrade to 18x
