3-9x40 enough for medium range antelope?

Yes, 3x9 works great. I used a fixed 4x weaver for years and practiced a lot and carefully chose shots. IMHO, nothing at all wrong with getting a new, higher power scope mounted if it gives you more confidence. That's what I did when my 4x fogged up one fine day.

Big bore build, grouse to Cape buffalo

Outstanding on all accounts! Color me a committed follower, all the way through to when this gun brings a cape buffalo to grass.

    Gaiters

Same here, wear them all the time unless it's hot. IMHO keep my legs warmer, keep the snow out, can cross small creeks with less water getting in the boots. Love mine.

    Interesting 4/20 marketing by Simms

Disappointed in this whole discussion and all y'all. Unless I missed it, not one mention of naming flies after 420/weed/holy-herb themes in 8 pages. Get with the program! Not good at this but I'll start: Weed-head nymph Mis-Jointed streamer Purple Haze - crud, that's taken Twice Baked Stoned...

    April 8th Eclipse

Landed DFW 20 minutes before total eclipse and made it outside. Brought the glass from my welding helmet, very cool to see it happen and take a few pics. wouldn't have made a special trip but was fun to watch

    Hunting backpack

IMHO, any 2500 - 3200 pack with meat hauling capability covers 95% of hunting pack needs. We have an embarrassment of riches among the known brands, all of which make excellent packs. The Pintler listed above has the guide light frame which means if you want to go multi overnights, just strap...

Rapid Raft or regular Packraft for creek crossing...

They're made with similar-to-Alpacka TPU coated nylon, not the urethane/vinyl fabric rafts that rip easily. Gimmicky? Have you handled one (honest question, not being a tool)? They're designed for light weight/quick inflate to cross or fish from relatively calm water. They're not in the same...

Carbon fiber stocks - DIY tinkering

Not arrogant at all and definitely inspiring. Jumping into carbon fiber often seems like a bridge too far but threads like this make it seem in the reach of more of us. Really appreciate the time you took sharing the story, materials, process, etc..

    Career change advice

Full disclosure: it's been many years since I was involved in conservation orgs. Similar to what was suggested above: network, volunteer and consider taking jobs that aren't exactly what you want for a while to position you for the future. One guy volunteered for RMEF seemingly forever, raised...
