My ~10 year old SO is pretty much miled out. It doesn’t owe me anything and it’s been great. The hipbelt and shoulder strap are worn thru, with misc other holes, tears and snags on the bags and straps.
Not really enjoying pack shopping. Won’t be getting another SO, even tho I love the old...
You’re welcome.
But IME, a well designed FFP reticle is useful at all magnifications. I’ve hunted exclusively with non-illum FFP rets for the last 7-8 years, and never regretted it. But I’m fussy about reticle design. And that’s why I’ll opt out on the Apex Hunter, at least until they hopefully...
It’s not terrible, definitely useable with illum. Id just prefer a simpler reticle, with bold symmetrical posts that come closer to the center, and draw the eye in. Much easier to take quick, low light shots. I don’t know anyone wholl take a shot on game when you need 6 Mils of wind in the...
They had a demo of their Hunter scope at the precision rifle match a buddy and I shot last weekend. Seems like a nice package. Good glass. Don’t love the reticle design for a hunting scope, and wish they’d capped the windage. But those are just my personal preferences. Time will tell on...
Toyo ATIIIs at 40PSI, but it’s stiff. I do air down to 18-20ish anytime I’m off highway/off-road. If I didn’t air down I’d probably go back to 32-35PSI for everything.
Agreed. I always put E rated on my Tundra for those reasons. But it worth mentioning that there can be a large difference in weight and fuel economy, even on tires with the same load rating. I have a set of studded RT type winters and a set of ATs for 3 season use. There is a very noticeable...
IMO, the Tikka stocks are quite good for an inexpensive factory composite. Depends on your priorities, but a guy can save a bunch of weight with some of the aftermarket options.
Ive been considering a similar plan, with a 7PRC Tikka build. Essentially an exact copy of my Tikka Wildcat 6.5CM. It’s one of my all time favorite rifles.
But apparently the 7PRC isn’t a great fit in the T3x action, due to OAL limitations? Look forward to your finished build and your thoughts...
I’ve been super happy with my T1x 22 & 17 as well. The 22 shoots pretty much everything well. Seems to be quite a bit less fussy than my 2 boys heavy barreled RARs, though they are also quite accurate with ammo they like.
Thank you Sir! It wasn’t very old in that pic and has seen a lot of country since.
Yes, it’s the McM Hunters Edge. Honestly, I don’t love the ergos, mainly comb height and geometry. But it’s very light, very stiff, and we southpaws only have so many options. Especially when it comes to LH...
LH M7o FW clone I had put together around 2010-2011. 3o/o6 Springfield Shilen SM barrel. ~6 pounds bare.
One of my all time favorites. Hunted with it a lot up until 4ish years ago. It’s had a few different scopes- VX3 2.5-8, FXII 6x LRD. Mounted a 3-12 LRHS on it last winter, so it’ll go back...
Since there obviously isn’t any published data, I’m a little leery of getting too specific. But there are several threads out there with good info on Lever w/ heavies in the 223. Snipers Hide, 24 Hour Campfire, and asrealasitgets all used to have a few good threads on the subject.
I will say...
No experience with the 140, but the 147 has performed great for us, out of multiple 6.5CMs. Including 4 Tikkas, a couple RAR-Ps, and a couple customs.
I’ve taken several deer and a few elk with them, with excellent terminal performance.
