Another elk down to a 6.5.

147ELD out of a Tikka SL
I second guessed myself/Kestrel on wind, held on the liver, figuring it’d get pushed into the vitals, but liver works for me too. First round hit liver. She went down hard, but head was up, so I put another one in her quartering away...
I’ve been there too. 🤪😂
I suspect Tikka has one length of fluting on the SL. A few years back I purchased a LH SL with their 24”+ barrel. Had it cut down to 22” and the fluting is ~2” from the muzzle now.
Hey! I’m from Alberta, and even I know that ain’t 4”! 🤪😁
(But working in the building industry, I’m use to converting metric and imperial back and forth. Didn’t think you guys could even get those mixed up tape measures down there. Hah.)
Hey gerry35. Hope you and yours are well. :)
I’m not sure how much help I can be, as I don’t own either of those scopes. (I use mostly SWFA and certain Bushnell Elite Tac scopes- LRHS, LRTS, etc.) Some of my shooting/hunting buddies do own various Trij & NF scopes, and true to their reputation...
Same here. I experimented with going UL in clothing and sleep system. Neither were worth the weight savings, esp sleep system. I still pack as light & highend gear as I can across the board, but more likely to err on the side of comfort in some areas. IE; no more small & UL pads, I always take...
Tikka will be your best balance of budget, weight, functionality and durability. There are other LH options, but they won’t be as nice, or will cost a lot more.
If you’re wanting to do a light weight build, why not start with a T3x Superlight in 6.5CM?
Didnt used to wear them, and I’d still field dress a critter without them. But I prefer to use them anymore and always have a few pairs in my kill kit. Keeps your hands a little warmer in the cold, and cleanup is way easier.
The Seek packs are pretty hard to beat for weight & packing way down for day use, while still being decent load haulers.
That said, I’ve been a SO user for 10+ years and recently made a switch to a SG X-Curve. The SG is far more comfortable with heavy loads, for me and my body type, and still...
It’s way ‘cleaner’ looking? Zero-stop, and better glass?
Definitely hard to justify the price difference. But sometimes a guy just wants something ‘nicer’.
Thanks for the thread on this. I would’ve purchased the Ollins last week, if they had cases for the iPhone 15 Pro. But the OnGlass looks like a better system for my uses. I’m going to give it a try.
I’ve owned a few of both. And hunted the 6.5CM a lot the last several years. I’d take the 6.5. Given good shot placement, it’s always resulted in meat in the freezer with 1 shot. Same as everything else I’ve used. Moose, elk, deer- it works great and is easier to shoot well than the bigger...
Bare rifle isn’t hard to get them to 5.5 or even a touch lighter. My SL 6.5 was 5.5 pounds with a Wildcat stock, Ti parts and barrel cut to 22”.
Add rings & scope that works and she’s over 7.25. 🤪
I just put a set of Hawkins Hybrids on a Stiller Predator. They seem really well made and fit excellent. Really like the 8-40 screws and recoil pin for each ring. 25MOA in such a light package doesn’t hurt either.
Time will tell on durability…
