Well, I struck out on elk and antelope as well (and I had 18 points for antelope), if that makes you guys feel any better. :)
Thanks, and best of luck to you all too!
Here is a photo with the shotgun in it. Rem 870 with 18.5" barrel, extended magazine tube, and ghost ring sight.
I use both electronic and diaphragm calls, but just the FoxPro yesterday, with good ol' reliable jackrabbit distress.
I had to look...I have used a few different chokes. I have used Carlton's "Dead Coyote", Pattern Master long range, and Remington Wingmaster HD Turkey/Predator chokes. The Remington is in there now.
For loads, I have used various ones. Federal #4 buck, Remington BB's, Hevi-Shot "Dead Coyote"...
Is anybody else here accumulating points for bighorn sheep in AZ? I have 20 points going into the draw this year. Certainly not enough points to guarantee anything, but I keep hoping for a tag before I'm too old.
Call them, they are usually pretty good about answering questions. I would not count on them doing the same thing every year, they do change things up sometimes.
Yeah, it would probably be a whole new ball game for you and them. But you never know!
The good thing is that pretty much the entire state is cat country, and most of the state is public land. People get lions in their backyards in the suburbs of Phoenix and Tucson. I have gotten lions on...
I think any western state will potentially be very rocky. And some parts of Arizona are rockier than others. Cacti might be a bigger issue in the low desert.
Are your hounds used to dry ground trailing? If not, you would be restricted to higher elevations in the winter, and there still may...
Yes, AZ is OTC, year-round, with no restrictions on non-residents. A non-resident hunting license is $160, and a non-resident lion tag is $75, pretty darn cheap. Some units have a multiple bag limit allowing 1 lion per day until the bag limit for the unit is reached.
Edit: Sorry, misread your...
Feral horse and burros are a huge problem in some areas in Arizona. The Ironwood Forest National Monument is getting hammered by cattle and horses escaping through holes in the fence along the Tohono reservation boundary. There are horse tracks and crap everywhere, and I have seen horses the...
There are not many antelope tags issued in Arizona, so they are in high demand. The area I apply for is an up and coming unit. It is not historically well known for antelope, much less big bucks. But the antelope population and quality of bucks has been increasing, and they have been issuing...
Yep, me too. Some might say I am anal about it, but I don't care!
I got some AZ antelope (from the strip, 13B, up near Utah) from my son-in-law's dad a few years ago, and it was delicious! I am still waiting for an AZ antelope tag...18 points and counting. Fingers crossed for this year.
