I have been considering getting one of these Springbar/Kodiak style tents. I would spend the extra money to NOT buy something made in China. Kodiaks are made in China, and sadly it appears Springbars are too now. Very unfortunate.
My backpacking tent has a floor/tub (Zpacks Duplex...LOVE it), but I have also slept under a tarp and on occasion under the stars in a sleeping bag. I don't give snakes a second thought. Mosquitos are a different story...
I can't say it made much difference in flavor, but it made a definite difference in tenderness. And I believe longer would be even better. Here is an article I found helpful: https://www.themeateater.com/cook/butchering-and-processing/the-why-and-how-of-wet-aging-big-game
I'm now in the wet aging camp with a dedicated refrigerator. I wet aged some of my last mule deer for 10 days. There was zero meat loss, in fact it came out looking as good as it went in. At this point I would go as far as saying that 10 days is the minimum, I will be trying 2 to 3 weeks...
If it is prickly pear country and it is glassable, get out when the fruits are ripe and start glassing. Check water holes in the area for tracks, check all trails for scat. Get off the trails and look for areas where rocks and logs have been overturned. Familiarize yourself with the AZ bear...
Great, being able to pack into an area for a couple of days may be helpful. It has been a few years since I hunted 27, and I know large areas have burned since then, so I don't know how that may have affected the bears. But I would recommend sticking to the northern part of the unit, anywhere...
Yes, I have killed a bear in 27. How do you plan to hunt? Backpacking in or car camping? Spot/stalk or still hunting?
Most of the bears I have seen in 27 were just above or just below the rim. But that is probably because that is where I have hunted the most. Unit 27 has a good bear...
I commute to work in an '01 Impreza that has just shy of 250k on it and is still going strong. "Love" is too strong a word, but it's been a great car. I don't think I would bother trying to lift one. I have actually taken mine hunting a few times where I wasn't straying far off the pavement...
Oh, and anybody planning to hunt 24B, it is in the process of getting a huge makeover. The Woodbury Fire is transforming the Superstitions in a very big way as I type this.
I am hoping to verify sub-1/2 MOA accuracy if I can get a calm day, shooting Berger 168's ahead of 60.5 gr of RL 22 at 2850 fps. Bullets are right at the lands.
