    Down/Insulation jacket recommendation

I really like my Magma, and that is at full price. For $150, I doubt you'll find better.

There is another thread on these that got some feedback recently.

Sears Ted Williams model 73 30.06

I am a Winchester 70 guy, but those JC Higgins 50/51s are a big step up from any early post 64 70. Getting off topic, but it did come up.

Sears Ted Williams model 73 30.06

If you want to rebore/rebarrel, go for it. However, you mentioned a “crappy, foggy scope” so I would start there. Those early post-64 70s weren’t pretty, but most could shoot. As Wapiti1 said, free floating may do it, but you won’t really know without a decent scope. Caliber recommendations...

    Firstlite disappointment

Have only tried their Brook Range on sale. Perils of wi-fi access in Kodiak Thanksgiving week. Anyway, I was shocked at how little insulation it had. I still don’t know what competitor’s jacket had less fill and weighed more, but it would have to be a windshirt. Because it was bought on sale...

Burn / use points on doe, Colorado

If you have points, you can find a buck tag. If I were a non-resident with the attitude you described, I’d recommend going that way. Your week of enjoyment could be pretty short if targeting a doe.

Stone Glacier bought by Vista Outdoors

I need some stock tips or perhaps simply lottery numbers from all of you who have the entire future of Stone Glacier charted out based on this purchase. Lots of conflating issues here, especially regarding the product being sold in retailers such as Scheel's (pretty much high end hunting gear...

Cooper Discoverer STT PRO vs S/T Maxx

Had the ST Maxx on my JKU. It was a good compromise between mud and all-terrain and did fine for me in the snow. Didn't go with it on my 3/4 ton truck just because it's a less than ideal highway tire and I have to tow a camper over long miles. Put the AT3 XLT on it and they've worked well.

Members opinions of the Winchester Mod. 70?

To the point about triggers, that applies to the original triggers featured up through the end of New Haven production. The MOA is "better" from a shooting/adjusting standpoint, but the original is more bulletproof and one of the best hunting triggers made IMO. Wish my BACOs had them.

    Cheap Stuff that Works

I don't have a Mora, but have gifted several. I know they've been mentioned, but this one seems pretty hard to beat. Morakniv Basic 511 for $8, of course you'd need to find some other good deals (not hard to do) to get free shipping or make shipping worthwhile.

Members opinions of the Winchester Mod. 70?

My hunting rifle is a SS 70 FW .308. It rides in a McMillan Compact Edge stock and the barrel has been shortened to 19". Love it. My son has a 70EW in .308 that will likely be his lifetime rifle. We use them for everything. If I were to have two, it would probably just be to add another...

    WTB WTB Benchmade Meatcrafter

I have not used a Meatcrafter, but really thought I wanted one. Watched and read a lot of reviews which were mixed. Checked it out in person, but couldn’t bring myself to drop that coin on what really appeared to be a stiff filet knife made with good, but not top end, steel. As I have not used...
