AR in .223, with a 6 ARC /or 6.5 CM bolt gun and a 7 PRC or/ .300 WM bolt gun.
I prefer semi auto’s for hog & coyote hunting. Our typical engagements are sub 200 yards, so we don’t need anything crazy for them down here. That gun would have a thermal & suppressor on it as well.
I want to say right around 13-14# for the stand, harness, sticks, aiders, pull rope, straps etc.
If I bring my fanny pack that may put me up around 16# total weight.
I haven’t weighted my current setup recently, but that’s “in the ballpark”
My current setup with 3 sticks and a 3 step aider is right at 13# if memory serves me right.
I chased my tail for a while trying to get to “0” for a climbing setup & saddle, but comfort and efficiency was lost in the process.
I’ve streamlined this stand to where the sticks clip in quickly and...
It’s the offseason and I’m jonesing to be sitting up in a tree waiting for one to walk by.
Post up your mobile hunting setup, be it a hang on, saddle, climber or ground chair. I want to see YOUR preferred mobile hunting setup.
Please describe it as well, to give us ideas if you don’t mind.
My...
It’s pretty easy to get a pass through in the heart, lung and stomach region of a deer. Things get western when you clip a bone (rib, shoulder, scapula etc…)
As long as you understand that and take good shots, keeping away from that shoulder/scapula area, you SHOULD be alright.
I like hanging stands and then using ribbon tape to flag off the entire area. I typically tell anyone that tries to hunt my area, that I’ve been hunting there for the past 20 years and I know the Game Warden so don’t even bother.
The other ridge is really good, though. You should check that...
I’ve owned and used Iron Will S100’s and the 100 Wides. Great heads, well built, packaged etc..
Compared to QAD Exodus, Sevr, Slick Trick etc and they truly 2-3x “better”? In my opinion, no. The only thing 2-3x more is the cost of the Iron Will.
My new favorite Whitetail rifle is this CVA Scout in 6.5CM. Deer hunting Georgia, most shots are inside of 100 yards. I’ll hunt gas & power line occasionally, where a 300-400 shot is possible, but unlikely. Low light use ability is most important to me, as most shots occur at first and last...
Something to consider are the CVA Scout rifles.
I got mine off of GunBroker chambered in 6.5CM for $313 if memory serves me right. CVA Scout’s barrels are actually made by Bergera, if that’s any value to you. The trigger is very good as well.
You are able to change out the stock for a...
Ended up finding a CVA Scout Compact in 6.5 CM on GunBroker for a really good deal.
Paint job, Stock pouch, DNZ Rings topped with an SWFA 3-9 the rifle has done well so far.
I’m having the barrel cut & threaded to 16.5”, suppress w/ TBAC Ultra 5 and add either an S&B 2.5-10x56 or a S&B...
Watched this guy for several years. Had more than enough “almost” with him. How it goes bow hunting. I’ve watched him since 2020 I can say with 90% certainty.
October 28th I watched him chase a doe onto the neighbors, where he was shot.
At least I have closure, but to say I haven’t been very...
We bought 65 acres in Central GA back in 2020. The farm has produced at least 1 mature buck every season, with the possibility to kill more (if more people hunted it & with rifles).
#1 Hunting / Human pressure has to be minimal to the back portion of the property.
#2 Access has to be wind...
Similar side tangent story;
In college a roommate of mine grew up on a family farm, they had well over 7,500 acres with something like 3-4k acres in row crops.
Every summer, they were issued Crop Depredation permits by the Georgia DNR to reduce deer browse damage on their soybean, peanut and...
The risk isn’t worth the reward anymore.
One poor shot and the deer ends up on the news, then the groups targeting us hunters to remove our rights to hunt will use that as a focal point.
Years ago I bartered landscaping services for hunting permission on a 10 acre woodlot that bordered a...
You need to find a good shop and go in person, for all of the reasons above.
When I first began bow hunting, I took my bow to the “best” pro shop in the area that everybody recommended… The “bow tech” which turned out to be a buddy of the shop guys, did the tuning on my bow. He was fixated on...

Great grandfather caught a record class Marlin back in the 60-70’s down in South America. Had it mounted and shipped to New York.
After they both passed, that record Marlin ended up in a dumpster because his daughters cleaned shop.
