That bounce at 10:10 on the video made me question whether or not I’d do that to my new scope. At the same time, I dropped mine hunting right on top of the scope from about 20”, so ya need to know it’s going to hold up when it happens.
Thank you for the test and the video!
2860. Blc2. I had my gunsmith ream a longer throat and the bullet is sitting out a ways. I could be wrong on the muzzle velocity, but I changed it to match what I was dialing for impacts at 550 and 600 using the bc’s listed for the tmk
In the spirit of the thread, I wanted to go the same route as the OP. He and the rest of the people validating that choice have convinced me. I saw the impact on the elk, had another round in the chamber right after and was ready for a follow up if necessary.
My experience this year with a 223...
I’ve seen all the pictures and shot a deer with it, and read as much as I could find about the terminal performance. But for some reason, it’s nice to validate it first hand.
Another data point. 77 TMK, 2460 impact velocity out of a 223. Cow elk. She ran for about 5 seconds and dropped. Big...
77gr TMK
2673 impact velocity
He ran for about 5 seconds and dropped. His lungs were soup, and the top of his heart was shredded. I found the bullet in the trampoline/hide.
I had a 22” 280ai with an impressive brake on it. I was shooting out of the back of the truck with the tailgate down sighting in. That was dumb. It’s like I was trying to go deaf and create a flinch. I’m now going down the 223 suppressed route to get better.
I heard Eric Cortina say that he...
I haven’t cleaned mine in a few hundred rounds. Neither gun had a clean bore.
And I’m talking cold bore like it hasn’t been shot in a day, not shot ten minutes before and left to cool.
Is that because it can’t be made to shoot better, or because it’s a waste of time?
That could be a bitter pill to swallow, especially if you bought a barrel from a company you’d expect a good barrel from.
I’m relatively new to reloading, and I was determined that my reloading techniques were...
I’ve seen on a couple guns that the velocity of the first shot will be consistently lower than all the rest of the shots. I’m guessing it has to do with the expansion of the steel as the temperature changes. If the first shot is always slower, I think it would matter at distance.
We were using...
Is there some sort of consensus on whether or not fluting of any kind will affect the stress of a barrel ?
And is properly stress relieving more important in skinnier barrels than heavier ones?
If you’re buying new brass for cartridges around 40 grains, would large rifle primers be preferable, or go small primer brass and use small rifle magnum primers?
I’m having the same trouble with horizontal stringing right now with my 77 smk’s and tmk’s with a new gun. After reading as much as I can about it, I’m convinced it’s me.
