Bugle Report
Nothing yesterday but only a short hunt. Friends listened to a bull from camp through Friday night but he didn't make a peep during the day. Typical early season. -

Livestock in the September hunt
If I could pick, I'd go with cows over sheep on any hunt. I have noticed a change from year to year on elk in some areas in Montana based off the number of cattle. I think it has more to do with the amount of feed available when cattle are rotated in or out of an area. A lot of cows can beat... -

When Do You Leave?
I'll camp through the opener starting Thursday evening. I'll do mostly long weekends and a few random days this September but have a full week schedule third week of September. It's unlikely that I'll take the full week in September due to some later plans for my brother's first MT hunting trip. -

Shot the bow with my son today. Assisted in making some last minute bow adjustments for him. He seems dialed in with both field points and broadheads afterwards. -

Flew my butt back to Montana today. Hopefully I get more excited about it through the week. The change in humidity alone (Southern IL to MT) is encouraging. The llama and I may go for a hike tomorrow. -

Are you ready?
No, I'm not really ready but I'll be hunting on the 2nd. Traveling for a visit here in the Midwest hasn't helped either but it's sure made everyone happy. I suppose I did brush up on my bushytail stalking skills in Mom's woodlot. :) -

Calving areas
The major calving areas that I've known anything about in Colorado and Montana have all been on really nice private land to begin with. I'm sure there are some areas on public but it seems the biggest calving concentrations that I've seen are on the best ground on private land. Yes, there ends... -

I interviewed in Cheyenne years ago when I first moved West in 06. I had no idea what to expect but it wasn't the mountains that I was looking for at the time.
