Well, my grandfather was a professional trapper and farmer. He would leave his farm, wife, and kids for up to 6 months, to go to Norther Wisconsin to a small log cabin and trap beaver, wolf, bobcat, weasels for the winter. About the time he was 50-55 he would just trap around home. He dreamed of...
I will be sure to get a note out as soon as it is ready. I am dealing with a publisher now....? If I self-publish, it will be ready by Oct. this year, with the publisher, it should be ready by early Dec.
thanks
Thanks Robert, Most of them are too high of res to put on here, and I HONESTLY don't know how to reduce the size of them. You can check out my website www.billymollsadventures.com. I have a fair number of pics on there.
I just finished writing a book. I hope to post a chapter or 2 on here in...
Evan, Very well put. As hunters, particularly men, we all have egos, but the guys who hunt to prove something will never get anything from hunting. I went to Alaska at 19 to become a guide. I wanted to shoot every animal in the state. Especially a brown bear with my bow. Fifteen years later, I...
I have only every guided one bow hunter in the Brooks (North side). It was a crazy deal, it was a 6-day 2 on 1!!! The one guy shot one with a rifle on day 1, the other guy held out until the last day. We got to within 80 yards, with no cover available to get closer and he wasn't willing to "wait...
Luke, Mike from Captivatem Outdoors knows that road about as well as any one. He will be a good resource. You are getting good advice here as well. I have guided out of Happy Valley for 13 years. You will run into alot of hunters on the road. Your camp and gear will be safe, but you will likely...
Great thread, with good info. There may have been 1 or 2, but didn't notice any mention of Rage. Almost everybody with a TV show swears by them, but almost every TV host I have ever seen shoot a deer with one, shows the deer running away with 3/4 of the arrow sticking out. I am very much a...
Hey Jager, would would have to call Mike. His cell number in on the site. Mention that you are a Rokslider, and he will give you an extra discount. If you need something hard to find, he will track it down for you. I think everyone has the same thing going on with Sitka, but that is one of his...
All makes sense too to me, most of the guys on here know WAY more about gear than I. Don't skimp on your sleeping pad. I use a neo air by thermatest, but there are many other good ones that are lightweight. I will never sleep on a 1" mattress again! I am sure there is a sleeping pad thread on...
I have yet to try an y Kuiu gear, but www.captivatemoutdoors.com is the place to get Sitka, gear, and much more. Mike Monnin is the owner and he and I have become very good friends. I send all my Alaska hunters to him, and they all rave about his service. You will talk to him. He lives in...
Cool thread! I am an Alaskan big game hunting guide. Up until this year, I have been a carpenter/contractor in the off season in my home state of Wisconsin. I also have been producing Alaska hunting DVDs for the past 7 years. This is the first year that I have quit pounding nails: I am now spend...
Well, to the two other people who don't save for retirement: Let's go hard until we can't go anymore, and hope our children take care of us from there!!! ha!
VERY Cool!! This has magazine story written all over it!! Sharing experience, knowledge, and adventure with others is very rewarding and enjoyable.
Best of luck!!!
What do you use for gloves? For most of my guiding career, I have used cheap poly, or rag wool. If it is very cold and I am sitting alot, I will use large, GoreTex gloves, with long gauntlets to cover my wrists. What works for you?
