Sounds good! Agreed on word of mouth, it is certainly king.

Looks great, guys! @Unknown Munitions , are you guys going to release some content about the why on the design on this thing? Reason being, if I think back 10 years, I'd have thought it was a pretty weird looking design. Knowing what I know now, I think it's going to be awesome! I'm just...

    Caliber Choice On New Rifle

Yup, with correct chambering and long mags, it's a non issue. Off the shelf rifles can be a different story, though. And with RL16 I'm pushing a 156 at a trued up 2700 fps out of a 22" 6.5 CM. Drops are less of a big deal, but that bullet cheats the wind very well, and is extremely accurate...

    Caliber Choice On New Rifle

A gentleman had suggested 260 or 260 AI. I was just pointing out that standard short action magazines with a max length of 2.820 or so mean you have to seat some of the more aerodynamic bullets (specifically, in my experience, the 140 gr Elite Hunter and the 156 Elite Hunter) quite aways into...

Exactly. There really was no upside for him to the publicity he got.

While there is likely some truth here, how did that work out for Jim Zumbo?

One thing the internet has done is seriously compromised the pedestal a lot of these outdoor writers used to exist on. I can't read these magazines anymore, hardly, because it's obvious that most of what's written is not exactly evidence based. 30 years ago you probably could have written...

Yes. There's a big difference between those "positions" and "situations". Well put.

I think I could rent a typical Holiday Inn, and house all the legitimate 600+ yd field shooters in this country. And no one would have to share rooms. I say that maybe partially in jest, but the number of true 600+ yd killers is a fraction of the people who think they are. They certainly...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I've killed 2 whitetails with them at 2700-2800 fps impact velocities. They make a mess, but don't expect an exit. In my case 1 did and one did not. Both deer were shot heart/lungs and death ran 50-60 yds.

SWFA website updated; More to come in 2024

This is why updates make me nervous.

    Wait…what?

    This is true!

    Wait…what?

Well, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. The folks I've hung out with who are familiar have always been fairly adamant that suppressor was the proper term. It has always seemed to make more sense, as they suppress sound, but don't totally silence it. Except, of course, for subsonic. I can say...

    Painless load development (mine)

Also interested. I've used SR in a 6.5 CM for a few years now, with no issues, but I don't know that my ammo has ever been cold soaked at 10* or less.
  16. woods89

    Wait…what?

Yeah, why SIlencer Central and SilencerShop chose that terminology is beyond me. "Silencer" is misleading, IMO, to folks who aren't knowledgeable about them.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Maybe it should just be shortened to "223 for big hairy animals."
  18. woods89

    Wait…what?

It would help if they got their terminology right, and called it a suppressor rather than a silencer, to start with.

    Caliber Choice On New Rifle

I would only do this if the rifle had 2.900 or better mag length. I've handloaded for a 260, and you figure out in that process why the CM was introduced.

    Caliber Choice On New Rifle

I've been told that the terminal delta between the 140 and 147 ELD-M and the 143 ELD-X is not much. I think all three would be great. It's also a big deal that Hornady does well at keeping ammo in shelves.
