    Backpack Hunting in Grizzly Country

Everything that could be considered an attractant should go up in a tree at least 100 yds from your tent. Don't eat or prepare food near your tent. Don't poop near camp.Try not to camp on trails, ridgelines, or saddles (bears are lazy too). In the end, realize your odds of being killed by a bear...

    31'' Colorado buck 3rd season

With those fronts/beams he's got to be pushing B&C. Only thing I see keeping him out are those cheaters.

    31'' Colorado buck 3rd season

Very Nice buck. Seems like CO bucks have bigger ears than mulies from other locales. The two I killed had ear spreads over 24".

    First lite stormtight jacket?

I like mine. It does run big/roomy. I normally wear a large or XL and the medium stormtight fits me perfect.

Lowa input / advice / dilemma

Just switched to the clevedales after running the Tibets for a decade. Fit is similar, I would say the clevedales are a tad longer in the toe. I got the green ones on sale from Amazon for around $300 (I'm thinking the brightness will fade as I put miles and apply treatment on them).

Best all around Trekking poles ?

I've abused my Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork for over 3 years and they are still going strong. Only beef I have with them is the handle seems to slip or loosen up.

    Base camp tent suggestions.

Check out the Kodiak Canvas Tents. I'm very happy with the 10x10 for 2 people. You'd probably want the 10x14 for the family. Very good in the wind and rain, but probably not the best design for heavy snow loads...

Kifaru Pack Stays - Rifle Sling Carry?

Very interested in the new frames. My preferred method of carrying my rifle is by using my the pack stays as a "hook" for my sling; I hate having the sling constantly slipping off my shoulder. From the pictures it is difficult to tell if there is enough of a "hook" to keep the rifle from...

Swarovski SLC 10x42 & KUIU Bino System

These old model SLC's are in good condition with a couple of very small scratches on the objective lens (see picture) which do not noticeably effect the view. Everything on the binos works great & have the Swaro winged eyecups and Swaro tripod attachment stud (tripod adaptor not included).They...

    Camping in Grizzly Country

Glad everything turned out ok. It is a pain in the ass camping and hunting in grizzly country, and very hard not to become lazy as the days pass by or the weather turns sour. Still have not figured out the cooking/eating in your clothes solution.

    Tapering For a Hunt Suggestions

I'm no elite athelete, but do train all year and harder before the season. I usually quit lifting legs 2 weeks out, start decreasing my hiking/running about 7-10 days out, and don't do anything the final 2 days. Anyone with more experience have recommendations?

How do you pass the downtime/stay motivated on a solo hunt?

It is tough for 7-9 days - I usually go for multiple 4 day trips (luxury of living within a few hours). I mentally make the decision that I'm not leaving early before the trip. I usually bring a good thriller novel to pass the down time.
