Anyone else have a buddy bail at the last minute? (CO Archery Elk 2024)

Plenty of guy’s out there willing to help. There’s a handful of threads in here addressing getting ready for elk season. If you click on someone’s profile you should beable to see their post history. On mine I’ve commented on as many health oriented posts I can find.

Anyone else have a buddy bail at the last minute? (CO Archery Elk 2024)

Last minute would be while waiting for them to show up so you can leave to head out… that’s what happened to me 3 years ago, we were buds since the 2nd grade, haven’t talked to him much since then…you are better off solo, imo. Plus you have plenty of time to figure this out. Hunting one of the...

    What’s your go to?

For whitetails, locally I use one of my plethora of 308s. Typically I’ve been using my lightweight storm because it’s 7.4lbs, short, and pretty resilient, but this year I’m thinking about using my dd5 again. In urban zones or Iowa I have a 450bm.

Few small or one big storage

Organize how you see fit. For me it’s 2 medium sized totes. Then my clothing is in a bag. Good luck this fall!

    Socks?

Best all around sock I’ve found that fits me is the darn tough 06 steel toe boot sock. I have 41 pairs. Every time I send some in for warranty I feel bad so I I buy the equivalent to what I’m warranting.. now I have a few. *In the mountains I wear the heavyweight hunter socks to sleep in… too...

Do I need more clothing items? Sept CO Elk hunt

To each their own. But for me, the sleeves were too tight, it doesn’t stretch much. So I had to go up a size. Which then was too loose on my lower torso. I’m not a fan of baggy gear. Even with a base layer, it did not breathe well and I got pretty hot in it, it’s very noisy. The jet stream is a...

Do I need more clothing items? Sept CO Elk hunt

Sitka core LW hoodie is a piece of gear I’ve come to not be able to hunt without… I didn’t like my evo jacket. Tried it one morning, put it back in my pack. Haven’t worn since.

    Texas 600+ yard range?

Dang! That was one of the few reasons I was going to go back down there. It was pretty sweet to look at the one morning i was jogging past. Here in Wi everything is membership based and very few places past 300yds anymore. Vortex has 1100yds, but you have to take their school to use the range...

    Texas 600+ yard range?

There was/is a place right by my sisters house that supposedly goes 1000yd. She’s just south of benbrooke off 377. Not sure if that got developed up around there. Been 3 years since I’ve visited.

    General Fitness Preparation vs CrossFit

I understand what you mean. But I’m kinda a redneck, I have a gravel pile next to my shop for grading my driveway and have the gravel setup as a “box” to jump onto, no fully unloading with that or you’ll end up on your face. Then I carry 2 batteries out of my superduty walking around my shop vs...

    General Fitness Preparation vs CrossFit

Hitting the hills with a weighted pack! Box jumps and jumping on a trampoline for reps strengthening those lower leg muscles and feet, keeping tension on the tendons limiting opportunities for injuries. These are the 3 things for me that make the most difference in the mountains. I do box jumps...

Anyone pulling an enclosed trailer with a midsize V6?

I pull an enclosed and car hauler with my f150 frequently. When it was stock it did ok, each vehicle has some learning curve to adapt to when towing.

    Suppressors

If there’s one can currently to rule them all in 30cal hunting applications, the scythe would be my recommendation with a flush mount end cap. Good luck and keep us posted.

What and how do you carry your sidearm in the highcountry?

I’ve ran into too many cats not to carry during archery season. Plus there is the chance of crossing one of those 2 legged creatures with bad intentions. I struggle to find something that works for me, last year I had 2 wide zipties on an Alaskan guide holster attached to my k4 waste belt on the...

    .300 win mag ammo.

What are you hunting? How far are you planning on shooting? Typically savages are not that picky. Mine likes Berger’s 185-210s, factory hornady were sub moa, barnes 190lrx were very accurate factory loads, ultimately I had unknown munitions do a pretty hot load development with a 200gr lrx...

Tell me why I shouldn't move to wyoming...

Very similar situation myself, a lot of similarities. I was just in wyoming with the family on a road trip. And the last Hotel we stayed in I was online looking at real state, when we were in worland I talked with someone from the sheriffs office while waiting in line at subway. He said there’s...

Any New ideas for backpacking food/snacks?

Snickers came out with a protein bar… in case anyone else wanted to know of a bar that isn’t bad, like many are barely edible.
