What’s the one tip you wish you were given

Buy a subscription to North American Whitetail and read it cover to cover. Read every back issue if they are available....then apply techniques that you are good at that work in your geographical area or situation and be flexible. Almost every mature buck is his own animal and every piece of...

    My biggest NY whitetail

Nice buck...it's pretty common for a mature 4x4 to score 125-135. To jump in the 140-160 range you're looking at 5x5 or better with good tine length...especially G4's on a 5x5. You gain a much better 4th mass measurement on 5x5 and add two or more tine measurements into the mix. We've all seen...

Californians to boycott MT re: wolf hunting

I purchased my house for south of $200k in 2003 in NW MT...same house now is north of $650k. Thank California for that. If you work here, most likely you can't afford a house and lucky if you can afford rent. Prior to 2010 I could easily pick up 350 sheds a year and still work full time...now if...

    Pet Loads for 7mm-08 w/Barnes 145 gr?

Tried some CFE 223 with mediocre results - anybody have a pet load for 7-08 w/barnes 145 bullets. Sounds like RL17 might have some promise but not in my inventory and not finding any at the moment. What do you got??

Any Thoughts on the Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42 CDS Duplex rifle scope?

Picked up a vx5 3x15...limited use so far but good power range for the weight. Only complaints I hear consistently is if you dial alot they don't return to zero reliably over time. Have been using vx3 4.5x14 w/1" tube & like the 30mm tube on the VX5 better. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

    Wolf pack in CO

Interesting that only the facts that Buzzh & Slick present are accurate & the rest of us dumb f**ks don't count. My formal education is specific to wildlife management & my entire life has been spent hunting, guiding & fishing. I'm not bragging & not downplaying anyone else's opinion. It doesn't...

    Upping the Budget on Ultralight

Send Oregunsmithiing your left hand action & he will add a barrel in the caliber of your choice & lightweight stock for less than your expanded budget. In short action Remington Model 7's they end up +/- 6lbs scoped with Talley rings & Leopold compact scopes. Mine all shoot 5 shot sub-moa groups...

    Wolf pack in CO

Guess I hit a nerve Buzzh...with a democrat governor in each of the last 16 years, regardless of the legislature, there has been very little legislation that has passed that would be considered conservative & a classic redirection away from the subject...illegally introduced timber wolves...

    Wolf pack in CO

What the pro wolf experts on here fail to report are the large swaths of prime habitat that no longer have a viable number of whatever species...elk, whitetail, mule deer, bighorn to hunt or view or whatever your preference. They talk in their limited biased scope such as "well I'm working on...

    The Hunters Orange Epidemic

Guess if you go on the assumption if you don't see orange behind your chosen target it's ok to fire away. Consider if orange isn't mandatory that everyone would be more careful & follow the basic safety rule of being sure of your target & backstop. I've hunted in the scariest state...

    Truck Downsizing Question

Drove a 2007 Taco for 12 years & got 17-18 mpg...10 ply tires, reliable...never let me down. Ride wasn't awesome as had to beef up suspension to handle 4-Wheeler in the bed. Picked up 2017 Tundra, pulled rear seat the first day to accommodate gear or dogs...get 15-17 mpg with 10 plys, cap &...

Unique Caliber...just one more gun honey...

NULA 284 if you want the best. I have no issues with brass...it takes longer to type this than to resize 6.5-284 Lapua & Winchester makes fairly regular runs of 284 brass. Just got my matching 6.5-284 so now have both choices...waiting on a new scope & dies to start load development. 284 is a...

    45 colt vs 454 casull

Ruger Alaskan 454 in Gunfighters Inc Kenai holster carries great with a pack & was only a few ounces more than S&W mountain gun in 44 mag. Carried mine all summer on hikes more than 10 miles in the mountains of Montana and no regrets. Shot 45 long colt practice rounds with no issues...FYI. Sent...

Good old CA DFW doing what they do to make things hard

Don't underestimate how stupid the government in California is...just turn on any news station & their finest people are standing up there with their teeth falling out & lying to everyone willing to listen. They probably don't want to raise anyone's standard of living willing to pick up...

    The Hunters Orange Epidemic

In Montana the hunter orange rules only apply to road hunters...it's there to save the trucks...I thought everyone knew that. If it was meant to protect people then everyone would have to wear it during hunting season. Sent from my P00I using Tapatalk

Another good wolf study impact on game populations

It amazes me that anyone who hunts would advocate for wolves being reintroduced & "managed" with hunting dollars. The last two hunting seasons in NW Montana, on the last day of the season the game check station at the north end of the Swan was less than 1% hunters with game for the entire...
