Curious what the point of your post is...Do you just stand on the line and shoot offhand to zero your rifle to simulate field conditions?? That seems like the best way to demonstrate your shooting prowess. Maybe I missed the news...did lead sled go out of business because of it's absolute...
I think that elk is just playing dead...probably wasn't really dead until you gutted him/her depending on how it identified....that's been true with all the ones I've shot with 284...just playing dead...mine wears an NXS and comes in at 6.85 lbs...quite a bit lighter with a Leopold but kinda...
Probably the main difference between Rifles Inc & NULA is the action as I compare the two. If you've never seen a NULA, the action is a master piece...a whittled out 700 action is not a close comparison. Not sure if Rifles Inc full length beds or not but it's amazing how NULA's shoot to the same...
I wouldn't be afraid of a 284 & looking at the options they're offering for short action calibers not sure I would agree you're serious about owning a light rifle. I own both 284 & 6.5x284 NULA's...nothing ever walked away from 284. Lapua brass now standard for 284 as well.
I'm considering...
As a side note, I do not have nor have I ever used Tac, but I'll be on the lookout for some to try. I have a number of good choices but sounds like that is good powder for 308 and like to have multiple options. Thanks for the reply's and I'll update as my loads progress.
Finally got to the range with several loads to try with 3 different powders today. My tried and true H4895 load was ho hum. My proven load of 49.0 grains of CFE223 seated at 2.785 with the 150 hammers proved to be in the running and deserves some more attention. 50.0 grains and the group opened...
Looking for any proven loads with the new 150 Hammer bullets in 308? I have a 1 in 10 twist and have a good selection of proven powders that work in 308. This particular rifle has been difficult to get shooting 150's, but has shot well with several 165 grain loads. I am going to try CFE223...
Picked up a box of 131 hammer bullets for the wife's 7-08. Already have loads for both 120 & 140 Barnes but nothing in the 130 weight class. Which powders and loads are working for anyone? I have a good selection of powders, but RL15 for 120 and H4895 for 140 are what works for us with those...
Now Colorado you're really f**ked...Federal Judge in California re-lists wolves under endangered species act...better kiss your elk hunting goodbye. Fine starts at $100k for illegal killing of wolves....even the ranchers can't kill them now without the government holding your hand. Good Luck...
Anyone that can verify if USA Gun Shop with a Texas address is a legitimate operator? Trying to purchase a CZ rifle and it seems like it's a sketchy outfit going through paypal and wanting a friends payment option. Seems not likely on a new firearm that should be FFL to FFL. Thanks.
Orange doesn't stop bullets...interesting how Idaho has no orange requirement as compared to Montana and I would bet the accidental shootings during hunting season are similar statistically...if you just follow the 3 simple rules it solves most of the problems with gun safety...Good for Colorado...
The reason there's only 25 tags in that entire unit...see post #4 above. I killed my first bull there the first day I ever elk hunted with a bow...saw 5 bulls by noon and had one down. Learned how inadequate I was prepared for packing out an elk with a Dwight Shue pack...had to call in the Mrs...
Had them pop into view at 10 yards - pistol range - shed hunting trying to kill my dogs. They came in downwind & no doubt could smell my sweaty self. Might of been bad news for some of them & lucky I only had a pistol. That will make your neck hairs stand up. Now never go out with less than 44...
Thanks for sharing Buzz...I would certainly like to hear more but now I'm understanding a little better your take vs mine & many others. There have never been that many lions in any of the places I hunt & some of them aren't that far from your stomping grounds. I have killed one cat rattling as...
Some nice bucks Buzz...thanks for sharing....you must have those handily stored on your desktop. I agree...like seeing Montana Bucks. A few questions....since you have decades to draw from....how has the whitetail hunting changed? Specifically is the age structure the same now...I don't know...
Guess I touched another nerve Buzz...I rarely hunt elk...they're not really much of a challenge...last one I only hunted 2 days, shot him in his bed & packed solo for 3 days...I'm more of a whitetail hunter...a lot smarter than elk...you're so predictable Buzz...always posting the same old...
"When I started taking that approach with government stuff. I started seeing different results and getting a different perspective. Then my resentments started to dissolve"
Buzz has a different approach...he works for the Feds & Taxpayers...he's much nicer & polite than you...except when he's...
Interesting that Buzz says Montana hunting sucks, is mismanaged, too many lions & that if you kill a trophy sized animal it's in spite of MTFWP yet in the next breath he says he's hunted Montana for years, even after he left & has to pay NR tag fees & kills more animals than everyone else &...
Good job...Buzz says you have to kill 5 cats now cause they're far more damaging than wolves...wolves don't hurt anything by the numbers...
