Previous post is blood trail of 2014 elk with the deep six arrows & 4-blade slick trick. Twenty yard shot - elk made it 50-70 yards. No problems following blood trail on this one.
I shoot the slick trick 4-blade and it flies great and performs exceptional. Shoots to the same point of impact as field points and leaves massive blood trails.
On the flip side, the stocks that I have received have been just as stated. I have one of the lightest stocks he makes, but it doesn't look like he builds that stock for Tikkas. My rifles are Remington Model 7's. I am about to send out another one for a stock. I am just checking for accuracy...
As Shrek said, this ring is where your die is stopping in the sizing function. You are not resizing that last little bit. As long as the case is cycling through your rifle with no problems, I would not worry. I usually cycle my brass after sizing prior to charging just to make sure all of it...
I would take a look at the Forbes Rifle - it will meet the weight, accuracy and price requirements. Also, no clip to lose. I think they are available in stainless now, but if you are going to cerakote it really doesn't matter. I am not a 3006 fan because of recoil and l like short action...
If you are gun hunting rather than bow hunting, I would try for a muzzleloader tag so you can hunt when they are bugling. Otherwise, maybe consider taking up bowhunting. Half the battle with elk is finding them and when they are bugling that is easier. I know quite a few guys from NY who are...
Prices are listed on the website linked above. I would just call Wayne and talk to him about the cost. He makes quite a few different options and weight varies by style. The lightest he makes is a hand made stock which I have on one of my 308's. I'm not sure which styles he makes for the...
Talked to Wayne at Oregunsmithingllc today and he said you will save about a pound with one of his stocks on a Tikka. Also, based on the design of the Tikka action, he cannot make the magazine go away - ie - no blind magazine. Stuck with a clip. On my stock project with no re-barrel, he said he...
Is the issue with the barnes ttsx a velocity issue. I have used them for years out of multiple 308's and my wife shoots them in her 7-08. I have killed dozen's of deer and never had any issue with no expansion. Two holes and a good blood trail. In most of my rifles, I can get them to shoot...
Wool or Cabelas Legacy Fleece has been go to for years. Micotex definitely nice in early season. I have no use for clothing noise when hunting. The only exception would be with rain gear and I still search for the quietest I can find. Usually Cabela's MT050 - a little heavy, but can hunt...
I've had several kimbers that had multiple problems. I have also seen on several forums of people having problems with the newer models. The customer service at kimber sucks to put it nicely. They seem to still be having problems with firing pin springs not working correctly. I would pick a...
My wife took her Montana buck this year through the heart with a 7mm-08. The shot never touched any shoulder meat and basically ruined no meat on either front shoulder. She cut a channel through the heart. I think maybe the heart is located a little further back than you think.
You may want to take a look at and talk to Wayne at http://www.oregunsmithingllc.com/index.html. He does do stocks for Tikka rifles. I have two on Rem. Model 7's and they are nice. My 308 comes in at 5lbs 13oz with leupold fx 3x9, talley two piece, 21 inch barrel and one of Wayne's stocks...
I hunted that country many years of my life. When you get set next season, post or send pm and I will get you into places you need to be. There are quality bucks because they get to live longer than in VT. It will never compare to the west, but you can have some quality hunts and have a shot at...
Also in Montana, they may call you and not ask about all your hunting success. They may only ask about a doe(B tag) or one species. It is a screwed up way of doing business. They really have no idea what is killed. I have been interviewed on the phone and when they asked if I saw any wolves...
Your best bet is to hunt any other state than Vermont. Also, lower your expectations of what a shooter is as compared to western hunting. I would hunt the Adirondacks of New York over either Vermont or New Hampshire. Maine has great potential, but plan on spending alot of time/deer unless your...
I've shot quite a few deer with 44 mag rounds out of a muzzleloader with sabots. The soft points work way better than hollow points. With the low velocity rounds, you usually get two holes with soft points rather than one hole and poor performance with hollow points. I have also seen many...
I don't hunt that far east, but most locals road hunt so I wouldn't think that would hurt your chances. I know that when I am on the east side of the mountains, I see plenty of coyotes when I am truck scouting and such during big game season. I'm not sure how much luck you will have getting on...
